Bintel stocks a wide range of cameras for all different applications. Different cameras suit different telescopes. To get the best possible result from your telescope, check the camera/telescope combination using our astrophotography calculator here. Read More
At the core of astro images is the ability to record the light from your telescope with astrophotography cameras. You can use your DSRL camera, but many astrophotographers move to dedicated CMOS astro cameras which for even better results. Recent developments in CMOS technology have led to a rise of excellent sensors which have a much lower noise profile as well as high quantum efficiency (QE). Manufacturers have been able to transition these sensors from high-end DSLR cameras to cooled astrophotography cameras. Cameras with cooling are best for deep space astrophotography and typically have larger sensors. Cameras with smaller sensors, but no cooling, are best for planetary imaging as well as guiding cameras. Other factors include whether the camera is colour or mono, whether you need filters, framerate and readout speed. Some cameras have additional features for astrophotography built in. It's worth reviewing the specifications. If you need help choosing the right camera for your astrophotography, we're happy to help!
