Kendrick Secondary Heater Wrap-Small heaters are designed to work with Newtonian/Dobsonian secondary mirrors that are attached to a “stalk”, but don’t have enough exposed mirror to use our “Split-Ring” or Elliptical style heaters. The heater warms the stalk, and that heat is then conducted to the mirror.
How to choose the right model for your telescope?
It’s easy! You just need to make a few easy measurements. We can’t help you to choose because we don’t have your telescope in our shop and there are literally thousands of models and “eras” of these telescopes. Even models that have been in continuous production for decades frequently change the mirror assembly design, so we don’t want to suggest a model that might not work. The good news is …. you have the telescope in-hand, so a few quick measurements is all it will take to find the perfect fit. Look below and you will see a link to a template that will help you find the perfect fit.
Use this template to test for best fit. Simply print a copy and cut-out the template shapes and test fit. Take note of the portion of the heating element that is non-heated (1 1/8″ or 28mm). Also give consideration that the mirror collimation mechanism needs some room to move.
All models include easy electrical connectors and a neoprene wrap-around insulator which greatly enhances the performance of these heaters as it prevents the warmth generated by the heater from dissipating into the atmosphere.
The power draw is incredibly low using only 0.3amp or 4 watts at 100% Controller setting
This model is a simple strip-heater that can be mounted either horizontally or vertically. There are 3 sizes available.
Offers a very wide field-of-view, with pinpoint edge-of-field sharpness. These latest advancements offer a fully multi-coated optical design with premium-grade, exotic optical glass for the best possible image correction in color and brightness. The blackened lens edges provide enhanced contrast and help to reduce reflections while the parfocal design delivers little-to-no focus change when switching between eyepieces. With a generous eye relief, enjoy a comfortable observing experience. UHD eyepieces deliver a 40% improvement in corrections for chromatic aberration and edge distortions over traditional Plössls.
With a waterproof design, UHD eyepieces will guard against fog and outdoor atmospheric elements. Has blackened edges and is parfocal. Observe your favorite celestial objects in a new and improved view.

Highlights:
- Ideal for visual observation and astrophotography.
- Designed for the amateur astronomer or photographer who wants to view and photograph the moon, planets, and deep sky objects.
- Features FPL53 "super" extra-low dispersion (ED) glass in a fully multicoated apochromatic lens system that corrects for both spherical and chromatic aberrations, astigmatism, and off-axis comas.
- This correction creates a wide flat field of view without distortion and removes the blue-tinted halo effect for true high-contrast color transmission.
- Can accept both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces and accessories for visual use.
- Threads on the drawtube allow direct connection of T-rings and other camera mounts.
A ring spacer placed around the objective lens refines star images beautifully in astrophotography.
In the previous SD81S model, a set of three tiny tin foils are placed around the objective lens as a spacer between the doublet lens. The end of the tin foils protruding over the objective lens obstruct the incoming light. As a result, the protruding tin foils make the light of diffraction of stars chipped radially. Exchanging the tin foils for the spacer ring makes the diffraction of the stars' light equal. It allows you to create more refined and beautiful star images in your astrophotography.
The SD lens suppresses residual chromatic aberration far below the threshold of visibility.
A lens of refracting telescopes has chromatic aberration which is caused by different wavelength of visible light (colors) focusing at different distances. The Vixen SD lenses, made of FPL53 super extra-low dispersion glass, allow for correcting the chromatic aberration over a wide spectrum of light. The SD81SII delivers outstandingly sharp images with high contrast for both visual and photographic applications. Moderately bright F7.7 images will satisfy the most demanding visual astronomer or astrophotographer.
A short optical tube in length is handy for not only visual observation but also astrophotography.
The ED81SII optical tube has a moderate short length to enable you to carry and set it up readily. Also, a lightweight optical tube allows you to balance it with fewer counterweights. The ED81S comes equipped with a metal carry handle and the Vixen standard dovetail slide bar M for quick attaching and detaching. The provided Flip mirror diagonal switches incoming light to allow for using two eyepieces of different magnifications alternately. Also, you can install a camera on the straight side and view an image through an eyepiece on the right-angled side of the flip mirror diagonal.
Full-frame imaging with a DSLR camera.
Using an SD reducer HD kit or an SD Flattener SD kit, which are available optionally, the SD80SII provides an image circle of 44mm, adequate for taking photos with a DSLR camera. (Photo) M8, M20 nebulae taken with Vixen SD81SII with SD reducer HD kit (compound focus 496mm) and Pentax K-1 at ISO1600, 49 minutes exposure.
Optional accessories to expand your pleasure of taking astrophotography.
SD Reducer HD Kit: This kit includes a flattener lens to be combined with a reducer lens for a flat and wide imaging field when you use them with the SD81SII, SD103SII, or SD115SII optical tube. Noctivid reach. Pocket weight.
The Leica Noctivid Compact 10×25 delivers 10× magnification and 90 % light transmission in a 359 g body that goes everywhere. A 100 m field of view at 1,000 m, waterproof to 5 m — the detail-resolving power of a full binocular, without the weight of one.
Ten times closer. Still fits in a jacket pocket.
10× reach. Light transmission that doesn’t blink.
Higher magnification compresses the exit pupil — in lesser binoculars, that means dimmer images. Leica’s HDC® multilayer coatings and HighLux-System HLS® hold light transmission at 90 %, maintaining bright, high-contrast images even in overcast conditions or at dusk.
15.8 twilight factor, 90% transmission.
A twilight factor of 15.8 — high for a 25 mm compact — pairs with 90 % light transmission to keep detail and colour readable as the sun drops. Dawn and dusk are when birds and wildlife are most active, and that is exactly when the 10×25 keeps working. The view stays bright long after a lesser compact has gone flat.
10× power. Prisms that can keep up.
BAK4 roof prisms with Leica P40 phase-correction coating eliminate the interference fringing that becomes conspicuous at higher magnifications. Sharpness and colour accuracy hold firm across the entire field — edge to edge, at full 10× power.
The complete 100 m field. Without removing your glasses.
A 15 mm eye relief with twist-up rubber eyecups and two indexed click-stops means spectacle wearers access the full 100 m field of view — not a narrowed version of it.
German-built to handle the field. Small enough to always come along.
The Noctivid Compact 10×25 uses an aluminium chassis from Leica’s Solms facility — sealed against dust and moisture, finished in durable rubber armour for a secure grip in wet or cold conditions. At 110 × 112 × 40 mm and 359 g, it fits every daypack, most jacket pockets, and the overhead locker of any aircraft.
Safari, stadium, or sea cliff.
Ten times magnification in a body that goes in your pocket. The 10×25 is the binocular serious birdwatchers and travellers reach for when weight is non-negotiable.
Sealed for wherever the birds are.
Nitrogen-filled and waterproofed to 5 m depth. Rain, sea spray, condensation, and sub-zero temperatures cannot reach the optics. The 10×25 performs in the conditions that test binoculars the most.
2 m close focus. No target too near or too far.
A minimum focus distance of 2 m means the 10×25 resolves the detail of a dragonfly resting nearby and a distant shorebird a kilometre out — everything in between stays sharp.
Made in Germany. Every component counts.
Engineered and built in Germany, the Noctivid Compact 10×25 inherits the same optical philosophy and factory standards as every Leica instrument before it — a century of precision glass, precision mechanics, and nothing left to chance.
10× magnification. Zero excuses for leaving it at home.
At 110 × 112 × 40 mm and 359 g, the Noctivid Compact 10×25 puts full-range detail-resolving power into a body that disappears into any bag or pocket. The double-hinge collapses it flat in a second. It is the binocular that is always there, which means it is never the one you wished you had brought.
No hidden trade-offs. Everything a serious birdwatcher or traveller actually needs from a 10× compact.
10× magnification with a 100 m field of view at 1,000 m for clear detail at distance.
HDC® multilayer coatings and HighLux-System HLS® for 90 % light transmission.
P40 phase-correction coating on BAK4 roof prisms for sharp, accurate colour reproduction.
15 mm eye relief with two-click twist-up eyecups, comfortable for spectacle wearers.
Diopter adjustment ±4 dpt for precise individual eye compensation.
Waterproof to 5 m depth; nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fogging in all conditions.
Aluminium body with non-slip rubber armour; 110 × 112 × 40 mm, 359 g.
Minimum focus distance of 2 m. Interpupillary distance 37–84 mm. Launched April 2026.
Includes neoprene carrying strap, eyepiece cover, and Cordura case with belt loop.
Engineered and built in Germany. Available in rubber armour or leather finish.
Technical specifications.
A century of German glass. Distilled into 359 g.
The Noctivid Compact 10×25 carries the optical philosophy and manufacturing precision of every Leica instrument before it — resolving power, colour truth, and contrast fidelity that the Leica name has stood for since the first glass left Solms.

Thermal binoculars. HD clarity, 2,300 m range.
The Ventex XT50 delivers Europe’s highest-resolution thermal binocular experience – a 1280×1024 sensor, 17.5° wide field of view, and dual-eye observation that keeps you scanning longer without fatigue.
Wide-binocular vision. A 17.5° field and European HD sensor that reveals every corner of the landscape at once.
Pulsar’s sharpest thermal sensor. In a binocular.
A 1280×1024 uncooled European sensor with 12 μm pixel pitch and system NETD below 20 mK renders subtle heat differences with extraordinary fidelity. Paired with the HD AMOLED 1280×960 microdisplay, every feather, fur edge, and distant body reads with defining clarity.
Kilometres of detection range. Spot distant animals, birds at flight altitude, and hidden subjects in conditions where conventional optics see nothing.
17.5° – the widest thermal binocular view.
At 17.5° horizontal (30.7 m at 100 m) and a 62–74 mm interpupillary range, the Ventex XT50 fills both eyes with terrain. Less panning, more finding. Survey wetlands, open plains, and forest canopies the way you experience them in daylight.
1,500 m ranging. ±1 m accuracy.
The built-in Class 1 eye-safe laser rangefinder reads distance to 1,500 m with ±1 m precision, in complete darkness, without disturbing your subject. Switch metres and yards on the fly. No separate device to carry or fumble for.
2–16× zoom. Detail at every level.
A 1280×1024 sensor behind 2–16× digital zoom means maximum magnification doesn’t mean maximum pixellation. Distant birds and animals retain identifying detail at full zoom, day surveys or overnight.
8 hours. Hot-swap capable.
A B-Pack Mini external cell (3,200 mAh) plus a 4,000 mAh internal battery deliver 8 hours of operation. When the external pack depletes, the device switches to the internal reserve while you swap. USB-C Power Delivery charges at 5 V and 9 V.
Magnesium alloy. IPX7. −25°C to +50°C.
A one-piece magnesium alloy chassis handles the weight of full binocular optics without flex. IPX7 waterproofing protects in driving rain and splashes. Operating range from −25°C to +50°C covers every Australian season.
Both eyes working. Hours without discomfort.
Thermal monoculars tire the dominant eye – the Ventex XT50 does not. Natural dual-eye observation distributes the load, so pre-dawn surveys stretch into mid-morning without strain. The 62–74 mm interpupillary adjustment and 15 mm eye relief accommodate the full range of observers.
You see them. They don’t see you.
The 1280×1024 European sensor detects heat at up to 2,300 m – revealing birds in flight, animals at scrub edges, and wildlife on distant ridgelines long before they sense your presence. No light, no noise, no disturbance.
Less sweeping. More observing.
A 17.5° horizontal field (30.7 m at 100 m) lets you read an entire wetland edge or track a moving flock without constant panning. Birdwatchers, naturalists, and wildlife carers all benefit from a view wide enough to hold multiple subjects simultaneously.
Dusk to dawn. Hot-swap ready.
The dual battery system – a 4,000 mAh internal cell plus a hot-swappable B-Pack Mini – keeps the Ventex XT50 running for eight hours straight. Swap the external pack mid-session without powering off. USB-C Power Delivery charges fast enough to be ready for the next night out.
Every capability, purpose-built. Night after night.

See what others cannot. At distances that leave wildlife undisturbed.
The Lumion XL50 brings a 1024×768 HD thermal sensor, F/1.0 germanium lens and 2,300 m detection range to serious birdwatchers, wildlife researchers and conservation professionals. Identify species in total darkness, through foliage, across open water – without ever getting close enough to influence behaviour.
Authorised Australian distribution. Full local warranty support from Bintel, Sydney.
The detail to identify. The range to stay back. The Lumion XL50 is the thermal monocular serious wildlife observers have been waiting for.
The bird in the hedgerow. Clearly resolved.
Image Boost applies advanced algorithmic processing to the raw sensor output, pulling fine detail from scenes where standard thermals deliver flat, ambiguous blobs. A wader at the water’s edge, a raptor perched in dense canopy, a mammal at the treeline – each becomes sharply defined.
Sensor sensitivity, brightness and contrast are all adjustable on the fly, so you tune the image to the species and the scene rather than accepting a generic preset.
Every detail considered, for observers who never switch off.
The XL50 is built for marathon sessions – from predawn roost counts to late-night mammal surveys. Ergonomics, weather resistance and intuitive controls combine so that the tool never becomes the obstacle.
Lock on before it moves
Zoom and focus rings follow the same layout as a professional camera lens. The moment you lift the XL50, the controls are where you expect them – so you frame, focus and confirm identity before a fast-moving subject disappears.
Confident in your grip, whatever the conditions
Wear-resistant rubber armour wraps the chassis for a secure hold in rain, mud or cold. It absorbs knocks, repels dust and moisture, and wipes clean at the end of a long session in the field.
Rated for the conditions you actually work in
IPX7 waterproofing and an operating range of −25 to +40°C cover everything from an alpine winter survey to a tropical coastal count. The chassis is built to perform, not to be babied.
Set it up the way you work
A symmetrical layout, adaptable hand straps and programmable buttons suit left and right-handed observers, and a personal user mode stores the settings you reach for most.
Grab it and go – wherever the survey takes you
The included case is built to work, not just store. Modular straps integrate with your backpack or field harness for a genuine 3-point carry, so the XL50 is always within reach and never in the way.
Sharp from the first light, even in a frost
The frost-resistant AMOLED HD display delivers a crisp, true-to-sensor image regardless of temperature. On cold mornings when conventional optics fog and digital screens dim, the XL50 shows you everything.
All night. With a spare in your pocket if you need it.
The APS 3 Li-ion pack delivers around 7 hours at +22°C. When a survey runs long, swap in a fresh pack in seconds – no cables, no waiting, no missed sightings.
Recharge over USB Type-C with Power Delivery support for a faster top-up, or drop the removed pack onto any Qi wireless pad when you are back at base.
2,300 m of reach. Every pixel working for you.
A 14° field of view sweeps habitat fast. An F/1.0 lens draws in thermal detail at the far edge of detection range. The result is an instrument that keeps up with wildlife – and with observers who know what they are looking for.
Everything you need in the field. Nothing you have to add.
Detail at the limits of detection
An F/1.0 objective gathers maximum thermal energy, so fine detail holds up in cool ambient conditions and at the outer edge of the 2,300 m detection range – where lesser lenses give you noise.
Document what you see, without slowing down
Record video and stills directly to 64 GB of built-in memory as .mp4 and .jpg files. No SD card to lose in the dark, no phone to pair before you can capture.
Share the sighting in real time
Dual-band 2.4 / 5 GHz Wi-Fi pairs with the Wild Vision app for live streaming to a phone or tablet, instant sharing with a team, or full remote control when the XL50 is deployed on a mount.
Colour palettes
Choose from nine thermal colour palettes to match the scene, the species and your own preference.
Everything that matters. In a single instrument.

f/2.75.
What used to take a week now takes a night.
The DeltaRho 280 Argus is PlaneWave’s observatory-class wide-field astrograph for serious imagers and sky-survey programmes. Fused silica quartz mirrors, a carbon fibre OTA, and a 55 mm image circle at f/2.75 — 280 mm of aperture that turns nights of integration into a few productive hours.
f/2.75 is not just fast. It is the difference between finishing a target tonight and coming back next month.
13× faster than f/10. Every photon counts more.
At f/2.75, the DeltaRho 280 gathers light 13 times faster than an f/10 instrument of identical aperture. That is not an incremental advantage — it is the difference between a productive one-hour session and a week of cloud-interrupted integration. Research programmes and sky surveys that would otherwise take months become achievable in a single season.
mm image circle — large enough to cover full-frame sensors and beyond, with sharp stars from centre to corner at 4.5 μm RMS or better at 27.5 mm off-axis.
Focus stays locked. All night.
Primary and secondary mirrors are optical-grade fused silica quartz — near-zero thermal expansion, the same material used in premier research observatories. As temperature drops through the night, conventional glass mirrors shift focus. The DR280’s quartz mirrors do not.
Stiff where it matters. Light where it counts.
Carbon fibre delivers exceptional torsional rigidity with minimal mass. At 14.5 kg for a 451 mm OTA, the DR280 is a 280 mm instrument that mounts on observatory-class and high-end portable mounts alike — without needing a counterweight upgrade.
Sensor alignment without shimming or guesswork.
The integrated tip-tilt focal plane adjuster lets you dial in perfect sensor tilt with precision — no shims, no trial-and-error. It is consistent, repeatable, and done in minutes at the start of any session.
The Heart Nebula. In one frame.
The 770.6 mm focal length paired with the 55 mm image circle delivers over 4 degrees of field of view. Large nebula complexes, galaxy groups, and wide-field targets that require mosaics on narrow-field systems fit comfortably into a single frame — or anchor a multi-panel survey.
Dew control built in. Session-ending fog, ruled out.
Integrated dew control heater technology keeps the optical path clear on humid Australian nights. One less cable to run, one less failure point — the DR280 keeps imaging when lesser rigs fog out and call it a night.
Collimation solved. From first session to thousandth.
The DeltaRho 280 ships with PlaneWave’s collimation software that walks you through mirror alignment step by step — no iterative star-testing, no guesswork. Set it once: the rigid carbon fibre structure holds alignment through the night. The low-profile focuser delivers 0.5 inches of travel from a 163 mm back focus distance, giving your imaging train room to breathe.
M51. The Whirlpool Galaxy.
Galaxy arms, tidal bridges, and foreground stars resolved in a single short session. At f/2.75, integration time that would fill a week on a slower system compresses to a few productive hours.
IC 1805. The Heart Nebula.
H-alpha, RGB narrowband composite. The 4-degree–plus field captures the Heart Nebula’s full complex and surrounding star-forming regions in a single pointing — a target that demands a mosaic from slower, narrower systems.
Built for imagers who treat every clear night as a resource. Nothing wasted.
280 mm (11″) aperture with fused silica (quartz) primary and secondary mirrors for temperature-stable performance
f/2.75 focal ratio — 13 times faster than f/10, reducing required integration time dramatically
55 mm image circle at 4.0 μm RMS on-axis and 4.5 μm RMS at the full 27.5 mm off-axis radius
Integrated tip-tilt focal plane adjuster for precise sensor alignment without physical shimming
Carbon fibre optical tube — 451 mm OTA, 14.5 kg total weight for use on observatory-class mounts
Built-in dew control heater and broadband AR coatings (<1% reflection, 400–800 nm) for consistent all-weather performance
4°+ field of view capability with a 55 mm sensor — ideal for large nebula complexes and sky surveys
Compatible with PlaneWave L350 Direct Drive Mount — designed as an integrated professional imaging system
Every number that matters.

The fast SCT, reinvented.
8 inches. f/2.8. Carry-on weight.
The Observable Space FSCT8 is the first native f/2.8 Schmidt-Cassegrain ever built in an 8-inch form factor. A 42 mm image circle, fused silica quartz mirrors, and a 267 mm carbon-fibre OTA under 9 kg — designed from the optical axis out for astrophotographers who demand observatory results without the observatory.
Every clear night is too short. The FSCT8 makes sure you get the most out of every hour of it.
f/2.8 native. The SCT form factor finally fast.
A conventional 8-inch SCT runs at f/10. The FSCT8 runs at f/2.8 natively — no reducer stacks, no optical compromises. That is a 13-fold increase in photon-gathering speed. A four-hour integration target becomes roughly 20 minutes of effective exposure. For imagers working under Australian skies with limited clear nights, this is the most impactful single step up possible.
mm fully illuminated image circle. Sharp stars across the entire field at under 6.2 μm RMS — covering APS-C and most medium-format sensors with no vignetting.
Quartz mirrors. Focus doesn’t move.
Primary (210 mm) and secondary (114 mm) mirrors are both fused silica quartz — the same glass used in research-grade observatories. Near-zero thermal expansion means the focus point does not drift as temperature drops. Your collimation is still correct at 3 am.
267 mm OTA. Fits where full-size SCTs don’t.
The carbon-fibre upper cage is rigid, thermally stable, and keeps total OTA length at just 267 mm. That is shorter than many refractors. It mounts on mid-range equatorial platforms and travels as carry-on — without sacrificing the optical performance of a full 8-inch system.
Flat field. Corner to corner. No caveats.
The 88 mm broadband AR-coated corrector lens flattens the focal plane and holds sub-6.2 μm RMS optical performance across the full 42 mm image circle — from dead-centre to the corner of a full APS-C sensor.
Your full imaging train. No extensions required.
A 100 mm back focus from the mounting surface accommodates camera, filter wheel, electronic focuser, and off-axis guider without extension tubes. The 2.75 μm per arcsecond image scale is matched to modern small-pixel CMOS sensors — making the most of every pixel in the frame.
Purpose-built for imaging. Not retrofitted for it.
Observable Space — the PlaneWave and OurSky collaboration — built the FSCT8 as an imaging instrument from the ground up. Mirror material, corrector geometry, tube construction, back focus distance: every decision serves the astrophotographer. This is not a visual SCT with a reducer bolted on. It is a dedicated astrograph that fits in a carry-on bag.
8-inch aperture. Mid-range mount. Dark-sky remote site. All viable.
At under 9 kg and just 267 mm OTA length, the FSCT8 is mountable on equatorial platforms that a conventional 8-inch SCT with reducer stack would overload. It travels as carry-on, sets up in minutes, and puts professional-grade optical performance within reach of any dark-sky site — no permanent observatory required.
NGC 6992. The Eastern Veil Nebula.
Supernova remnant in Cygnus. Delicate filamentary emission structure that demands long exposures from slower systems resolves here in a fraction of the integration time — f/2.8 working exactly as intended.
M97. The Owl Nebula.
Planetary nebula in Ursa Major, approximately 2,600 light years distant. Extended shell structure and the characteristic owl-eye cavities resolved in a single night — a target that a slow system would need multiple sessions to match.
More signal per hour. Every clear night finally worth the effort.
Native f/2.8 focal ratio — the first fast SCT in an 8-inch system, designed for wide-field deep-sky imaging from the optical axis out
42 mm fully illuminated image circle with optical performance under 6.2 μm RMS across the full field — sharp stars edge to edge
Fused silica (optical-grade quartz) primary (210 mm) and secondary (114 mm) mirrors with enhanced aluminium coatings for temperature stability
Carbon-fibre upper cage construction — 267 mm OTA, under 9 kg total weight for use on mid-range to high-end imaging mounts
88 mm broadband AR-coated corrector lens delivers a flat focal plane and 2.75 μm per arcsecond image scale suited to modern CMOS sensors
100 mm back focus from mounting surface — accommodates cameras, filter wheels, and electronic focusers in a standard imaging train
4°+ field of view with a 42 mm sensor — ideal for large emission nebulae, galaxy groups, and all-sky survey programmes
An Observable Space instrument — the merger of PlaneWave precision optics engineering and OurSky imaging systems expertise, purpose-built for the astrophotographer
Every number that matters.

The compact and lightweight spotting scope for detailed bird watching.
-
Premium Optics with HD Concept
The ZEISS Conquest Apia 65 is the ideal spotting scope for nature and bird watchers who want to combine lightness and compact design with outstanding optical performance when on the move. It is a reliable companion on long and mobile observation tours. Thanks to its HD optics concept, it delivers clear, high-contrast images across the entire field of view, and its 20–50x zoom range allows you to see both a wide overview and the finest details.
The high light transmission of 87% ensures reliable observations even in low light conditions. Ergonomic focus and zoom wheels make operation easy, while the robust housing with non-slip armouring protects the optics and the LotuTec® coating allows water and dirt to simply roll off.
Compact and Lightweight
Designed for those who are always on the move, the Conquest Apia's slim, lightweight body fits effortlessly into any pack. Whether you're glassing a hillside at dawn or scanning a wetland from the edge of a hide, this scope won't slow you down. Its compact proportions belie the full-sized optical performance within.
Premium Optics with HD Concept
ZEISS HD glass elements deliver exceptional colour fidelity and resolution across the full zoom range. Fluoride-type glass suppresses chromatic aberration so subjects appear with outstanding edge-to-edge sharpness and natural colour rendition — even in challenging low-light or high-contrast conditions.
ZEISS T* Anti-Reflection Coating
ZEISS T* multi-coating is applied to every air-to-glass surface, reducing reflections to an absolute minimum and maximising light transmission. The result is a bright, high-contrast image with exceptional colour neutrality — the hallmark of every ZEISS optic. In low light or against bright skies, the difference is immediately visible.
LotuTec® Hydrophobic Lens Coating
The outer lens surfaces are treated with ZEISS LotuTec® — a hydrophobic nano-coating inspired by the lotus flower's self-cleaning properties. Water, grease and dust bead off rather than smearing. In rain, fog or dewy conditions your view remains clear without constantly wiping the lens. LotuTec® keeps your optics performing flawlessly no matter what the weather throws at you.
Ergonomic Design
Every control on the Conquest Apia is where your hands naturally fall. The smooth dual-speed focus wheel allows quick rough focus followed by precise fine adjustment, while the large, textured zoom ring is easily operated with gloves on. The angled eyepiece option makes extended sessions effortless whether the scope is on a low tripod or a high window mount.
In addition, compatibility with the ZEISS Digiscoping Adapter allows you to take photos and videos with your smartphone for nature documentation and birdwatching.

Close-distance observation from a minimum focusing distance of approximately 50 centimeters
Compact binoculars for both long distance and close up viewing.
We've been amazed at what our BINTEL customers have been using these unique Pentax Papilio binoculars for. Perfect for everything from nature watching and bird observing, through to taking to museums for close up views of exhibitions, checking out electronic circuitry or even examining the fine details on medieval manuscripts.
Highlights
- Close-distance observation from a minimum focusing distance of approximately 50 centimeters
- The first Papilio-series model to feature a weather-resistant construction
- High-performance optical design
- Latest HD Coating to further upgrade optical performance
- Long eye relief
- Easy-to-hold rubber casing
In general, observing an object from a close distance with a pair of binoculars causes a discrepancy in the visual field between the right and left eyes. In order to compensate for this discrepancy, the Papilio III WR incorporates the PENTAX-original convergence correction mechanism, which slides the objective lenses in conjunction with the focusing distance. This unique mechanism lets the user more comfortably observe subjects at close range without suffering eye fatigue.
Since the objective lenses returns to their original position in long-range observation, this model also performs superbly in normal applications, such as birdwatching, hiking, concerts and sports viewing.
The first Papilio-series model to feature a weather-resistant construction
For the first time in the Papilio series, the Papilio III WR features a weather-resistant construction which minimizes the intrusion of water and moisture into the interior, making it a highly dependable observation tool in the rain and mist and at locations prone to water splashes. An anti-stain coating has also been applied to the eyepieces and front plate-glass surfaces to minimize the adhesion of dust and stains.
Latest HD Coating to further upgrade optical performance
The newest high-performance HD Coating* has been applied to some of the optical elements already treated with full multi-coating. Compared with conventional multi-coatings, this assures higher transmittance with less reflection. The result is that the Papilio III WR delivers extra-clear, higher-contrast images even under such demanding conditions as backlighting.
High-performance optical design
All optical elements of the Papilio III WR are treated with a full multi-coating process to assure the optimum imaging performance, while minimizing unwanted reflections. The combination of the aspherical optical elements and the high-refraction BaK4 index glass prisms also delivers a sharp, clear subject image without distortion, even at the edges of the image field.
Easy-to-hold rubber casing
The entire binocular body is encased in a protective rubber casing to assure better holding comfort and superior impact resistance.
Long eye relief
This model’s long 15mm eye relief allows even eyeglass-wearers to clearly and comfortably observe the entire field of vision.
Other Features
- RICOH-original dual-axis eye-space adjustment mechanism for simple, effortless adjustment of the width between the eyepieces
- Helicoid-type eyepiece rings for single-action, push-and-pull adjustment of eyepiece positions
- Click-stop diopter adjustment mechanism to prevent accidental shift of the diopter settings
