Tele Vue's Delos 14mm is a medium focal length eyepiece that creates an “immersive viewing experience”. With its generous 20mm eye-relief and wide 72° apparent field of view you will be hard pressed to find another eyepiece that is such a pleasure to look through. Amazing wide fields of view in well corrected refractors with short to medium focal lengths (over 1° FOV up to 1000mm focal length). While some of the shorter focal length Delos eyepieces may provide too much power in long focal length Cassegrains, the Delos 14mm is suitable for any focal length telescope.
There is a good chance the TeleVue Delos will be seen as the ultimate combination of performance, viewing comfort and price. Background:
In 2011 Tele Vue introduced the Delos, mid-to-short focal length line of 20mm eye-relief, 72° apparent field of view eyepieces. Every optical, mechanical, and ergonomic aspect was rethought to achieve reference-standard performance for any visual application.
The Delos was conceived as a narrower field Ethos. Reducing the field to 72° allowed freedom to increase eye-relief, while controlling pupil aberrations, all without making the eyepiece too large. With Ethos performance standards as benchmarks, the Delos design achieves full field sharpness, virtually perfect f θ (theta) distortion mapping, and color neutrality. Image fidelity is maximized utilizing glass matched multicoatings and anti-reflection surfaces throughout the eyepiece.
Contrast is further enhanced with a new, continuously adjustable height eyeguard system that can be locked in any position. Since the Delos eye-lens measures a quite large 35mm in diameter, preventing stray light from reflecting off the first surface and extraneous light from entering your eye pays off in a nice increase in perceived contrast. The eyeguard's sliding action allows for positioning the soft rubber eyeguard at the ideal height to suit the observer's preference. Indicator marks on the eyepiece body are handy reference guides for setting your perfect position. The eye-guard can also rotate for Dioptrx users.

With the Delos, the eyepiece simply "disappears" and allows the observer to observe. I could find nothing whatsoever to complain about; the "twist and tighten" eye relief adjustment feature is the best I've ever seen in any eyepiece, and the optics are essentially perfect. Tele Vue somehow always finds a way to continuously improve upon their eyepieces and the Delos is certainly no exception. - The flat field the Delos eyepieces produce really made star fields pop. Open clusters epitomized the old standard "diamonds on velvet". Stars on and off axis showed no sign of astigmatism.

Introduced at the 2007 Northeast Astronomy Forum, Tele Vue once again broadened the amateur astronomer's perspective on the universe with: 100° of pure Tele Vue quality. The field area of this new eyepiece is more than 50% larger than an 82° field. Tele Vue Ethos 8mm
The Tele Vue Ethos 8mm was first demonstrated at NEAF in 2008. In addition to matching all the key performance criteria of its 13mm sibling, the new 8mm version is parfocal in 1¼" focusers with Radians, Plössls, Type 6 Naglers and 1¼" Panoptics.
Its lighter weight and smaller diameter than the 13mm Ethos makes the 8mm suitable for anyone using a binocular viewer. A perfect eyepiece for terrestrial viewing with a short refractor. Comparing an 8mm Ethos to an 8–24mm Zoom eyepiece, the 8mm Ethos has the power of the 8mm Zoom and 83% of the field of the 24mm setting!

Tele Vue is known for its in-house eyepiece and telescope designs by Al Nagler; the development of the Ethos series brought new meaning to the term "in-house." The concept for this eyepiece series was proposed by Tele Vue President David Nagler, with performance parameters giving it the fundamental characteristics (the ethos) of a Tele Vue eyepiece: high contrast, comfortable eye relief and full field sharpness. Control of astigmatism, field curvature, lateral colour, angular magnification distortion correction, and low pupil sensitivity for daytime use were specified criteria.
Following Tele Vue's philosophy of pushing the state of the art, long-time Tele Vue employee and optical design protégé Paul Dellechiaie took up the challenge and designed the basic eyepiece form. Under Al's guidance, Paul tweaked his design to fulfill the original goals.
While sharpness is inherent to the optical design, contrast is maximized through the intelligent use of flat finished baffles and ultra low reflectance, high efficiency coatings tuned to the composition of each element.

With a generous 20mm eye-relief and wide 72° apparent field of view the views will astound. Background
Tele Vue introduced the Delos In 2011. The series includes mid-to-short focal lengths with all providing 20mm eye-relief and 72° apparent field of view. Tele Vue designer Paul Dellechiaie rethought every optical, mechanical, and ergonomic aspect to achieve reference-standard performance for any visual application.
The Delos was conceived as a narrower field Ethos. Eye-relief was increased while still controlling pupil aberrations by reducing the field to 72°. This was achieved without making the eyepiece too large. With Ethos performance standards as benchmarks, the Delos design achieves full field sharpness, virtually perfect f θ (theta) distortion mapping, and colour neutrality. Image fidelity is maximized utilizing glass matched multicoatings and anti-reflection surfaces throughout the eyepiece.
Contrast is further enhanced with a new, continuously adjustable height eyeguard system that can be locked in any position. Since the Delos eye-lens measures a quite large 35mm in diameter, preventing stray light from reflecting off the first surface and extraneous light from entering your eye pays off in a nice increase in perceived contrast. The eyeguard's sliding action allows for positioning the soft rubber eyeguard at the ideal height to suit the observer's preference. Indicator marks on the eyepiece body are handy reference guides for setting your perfect position. The eye-guard can also rotate for Dioptrx users.

An excellent premium quality low power wide field eyepiece. It is ideal for observing large emission and reflection nebulae, Supernova Remnants and large open star clusters.
It is well-suited for any telescope with a focal ratio of f/5 or longer offering 7mm exit pupil at f/5. Works wonderfully in SCT's for large field of view.
It has a huge 28mm of eye relief and can be used by eyeglass wearers with no vignetting of the field. This is a lot of eyepiece so its heavy weight may cause some minor concern in Dobsonians.

Nagler Type 6
The 7-element, Nagler Type 6 design is based on the original patented Nagler design. This new 7-element design update for the short focal length Nagler deserves its own designation. Using different exotic materials, coating processes and design ingenuity, Al has massaged more eye-relief, contrast, and true field of view into the shorter focal length Naglers, while maintaining the absolute sharpness of the originals. Eye-relief is 12mm on each model, and all are sized about the same as the original 7mm! Weight about 0.4 to 0.5 lbs.
Concept: The goal we set designing these new eyepieces was to increase contrast, maintain or increase eye-relief, reduce size and weight, and maintain the sharpness of the originals. They are all parfocal and great with the Bino Vue.

The Nagler eyepiece was revolutionary as the first eyepiece to deliver breath taking wide fields of view while still providing sharp images from edge to edge.
The eyepiece is an extremely important, but often over looked element in the image your telescope delivers.
In contrast to the objective of your telescope which rarely covers an image angle of more than 2°, the eyepiece has to remain sharp over an angle of more than 50°...or a staggering 82° in the case of the Nagler. For this reason extreme care must be taken to correct for aberrations - especially away from the optical axis.
Astigmatism and field curvature are 2 factors that most influence the off axis sharpness especially in "fast" objectives (below f/6). Eyepiece designers had tried for many years to eliminate these aberrations but it was not until the 1980s that a breakthrough occurred - the Nagler eyepiece.
Since then Al Nagler has refined this series of eyepieces taking advantage of different exotic glasses and improved coatings to deliver quite simply the best performance you can get out of an eyepiece. While other manufacturers may boast impressive field sizes, Televue's philosophy of "showing no field unless it is fine" stresses full field image quality as the ingredient for impressive views.

The TeleVue 22mm Nagler Type 4 is another of the newer improved Naglers.
The 19mm of eye relief as well as TeleVue's "Instadjust" click-stop adjustable-height eyeguard with a soft fold-down rubber eyecup allows for eyeglass wearers to experience a full 82° apparent field of view when fully retracted. The click stop increments of "Instadjust" allows non eyeglass wearer to find the exact height for full field of view images. A small plastic insert that fits in the eyeguard allows non eyeglass wearers to find the correct position of the exit pupil.
In big, fast Dobs this is an amazing medium-low power eyepiece great for open clusters, galaxy clusters and emission nebulae. Eta Carinae is totally awesome in this eyepiece.
In SCT's it offers 2.2mm exit pupil making images very bright and this is ideal for open and globular clusters. Have a look at the Tarantula Nebulae to be convinced how good this eyepiece is.

Review
An excellent premium-quality medium power wide field eyepiece. It is an excellent eyepiece for resolving globular clusters, planetary nebulae and very good for galaxies.
The 19mm Panoptic would be a welcome addition to any serious deep space observer’s eyepiece collection.
It only has 10mm of eye relief so eyeglass wearers may consider the 18mm TeleVue Radian with it's 20mm eye relief. However the Panoptic provides a 30% larger field of view than 18mm Radians.

- Eyepieces are a visual astronomer's window to the universe. And history shows that Tele Vue led the revolution in high-quality wide-field eyepieces with its introduction of the Nagler line in the early 1980s. - Tele Vue targeted the DeLites, introduced just before the 2015 Northeast Astronomy Forum convention, at observers looking for an economical high-end eyepiece that's small and light yet provides diffraction-limited performance, high contrast, and generous eye relief.
- At night, contrast was superb, enabling me to make out fine detail within the planetary bands of Saturn. And in the rings, the Cassini Division was obvious though ... smaller scopes. The eyepieces showed no sign of scattered light or ghost images, and transmission was quite good. Also, I noted no glare or internal reflections. Although I tend to prefer using single eyepieces to achieve desired magnifications, that's not always possible. So, it was good to learn that these eyepieces worked well with Barlow lenses.

- Tele Vue has once again created a line of all-around excellent eyepieces, good for both planetary and deep-sky work. Selling points are long eye relief, a small and light design, and the relatively inexpensive cost. The DeLite line should be on your must-view-through list of eyepieces at the next star party.

The Tele Vue DeLite 18.2mm was one of the first in the DeLite series. It is the lowest power member and is an absolutely stunning eyepiece. If you are looking for a superb medium to low powered eyepiece on a moderate budget, the Tele Vue Delite 18.2mm would be an excellent choice.
Available in 18.2, 15, 11, 9, 7 and 5mm focal lengths, the DeLite series is a delightful addition to Tele Vue's visionary line of eyepiece developments. Named DeLite because that best describes the viewing experience, the name also recognises designer Paul Dellechiaie's work.

- Eyepieces are a visual astronomer's window to the universe. And history shows that Tele Vue led the revolution in high-quality wide-field eyepieces with its introduction of the Nagler line in the early 1980s. Company founder Al Nagler was the driving force and principal optical designer on all eyepieces until the introduction of the Ethos line, when protégé Paul Delechiaie stepped up to the plate. Delechiaie went on to design the Delos line and, most recently, the DeLite line.

Tele Vue's Delos 4.5mm is a short focal length eyepiece that will deliver high power magnification. Importantly though it still achieves a generous 20mm eye-relief and wide 72° apparent field of view. Amazing in well corrected refractors with short to medium focal lengths. High powered views without the need for a Barlows or Powermate!
There is a good chance the TeleVue Delos will be seen as the ultimate combination of performance, viewing comfort and price. If you've been keeping a spot in your case for an affordable, premium eyepiece, you should consider a Delos - you won't be disappointed! Background:
In 2011 Tele Vue introduced the Delos, mid-to-short focal length line of 20mm eye-relief, 72° apparent field of view eyepieces. Every optical, mechanical, and ergonomic aspect was rethought to achieve reference-standard performance for any visual application.
The Delos was conceived as a narrower field Ethos. Reducing the field to 72° allowed freedom to increase eye-relief, while controlling pupil aberrations, all without making the eyepiece too large. With Ethos performance standards as benchmarks, the Delos design achieves full field sharpness, virtually perfect f θ (theta) distortion mapping, and color neutrality. Image fidelity is maximized utilizing glass matched multicoatings and anti-reflection surfaces throughout the eyepiece.
Contrast is further enhanced with a new, continuously adjustable height eyeguard system that can be locked in any position. Since the Delos eye-lens measures a quite large 35mm in diameter, preventing stray light from reflecting off the first surface and extraneous light from entering your eye pays off in a nice increase in perceived contrast. The eyeguard's sliding action allows for positioning the soft rubber eyeguard at the ideal height to suit the observer's preference. Indicator marks on the eyepiece body are handy reference guides for setting your perfect position. The eye-guard can also rotate for Dioptrx users.

Wide-Field Eyepieces That Pack a Planetary Punch
With the Delos, the eyepiece simply "disappears" and allows the observer to observe. I could find nothing whatsoever to complain about; the "twist and tighten" eye relief adjustment feature is the best I've ever seen in any eyepiece, and the optics are essentially perfect. Tele Vue somehow always finds a way to continuously improve upon their eyepieces and the Delos is certainly no exception. Bottom line: If you're in the market for a planetary eyepiece, you owe it to yourself to consider the Tele Vue Delos.

- The contrast was excellent - right up there with some of the best planetary eyepieces I've ever used.
- I searched but saw no internal reflections or scattering in either eyepiece.
- The flat field the Delos eyepieces produce really made star fields pop. Open clusters epitomized the old standard "diamonds on velvet". Stars on and off-axis showed no sign of astigmatism.
