Background:

In 2011 Tele Vue introduced the Delos, mid-to-short focal length line of 20mm eye-relief, 72° apparent field of view eyepieces. Every optical, mechanical, and ergonomic aspect was rethought to achieve reference-standard performance for any visual application.

The Delos was conceived as a narrower field Ethos. Reducing the field to 72° allowed freedom to increase eye-relief, while controlling pupil aberrations, all without making the eyepiece too large. With Ethos performance standards as benchmarks, the Delos design achieves full field sharpness, virtually perfect f θ (theta) distortion mapping, and color neutrality. Image fidelity is maximized utilizing glass matched multicoatings and anti-reflection surfaces throughout the eyepiece.

Contrast is further enhanced with a new, continuously adjustable height eyeguard system that can be locked in any position. Since the Delos eye-lens measures a quite large 35mm in diameter, preventing stray light from reflecting off the first surface and extraneous light from entering your eye pays off in a nice increase in perceived contrast. The eyeguard's sliding action allows for positioning the soft rubber eyeguard at the ideal height to suit the observer's preference. Indicator marks on the eyepiece body are handy reference guides for setting your perfect position. The eye-guard can also rotate for Dioptrx users.

Born and raised in remote Broken Hill, Trevor Barry left school after year ten to work in the mines. Years later, a single glimpse of Saturn through a colleague's telescope knocked Trevor's world completely off its axis, turning his whole life upside down.

With his newfound passion and armed with decades of outback know-how, Trevor set about building an observatory in his backyard using bits and pieces from his shed, a second-hand washing machine motor, rainwater tank parts and an old catamaran wire. It took some canny negotiations with his wife, Cheryl, 'the Gorgeous and Adorable', whose prized garden took a battering - especially when he decided to add a second storey - but before long Trevor was not just gazing at the stars but capturing extraordinary images of the planets.

Over the years, Trevor's love affair with Saturn, 'the ringed jewel of the solar system', only grew more passionate, and in his early fifties he did a degree in astronomy, topping his class.

When he recorded a massive storm on Saturn from his backyard observatory, he alerted NASA. The world's greatest space agency took note and invited Trevor to contribute to its interplanetary research - leading to opportunities far beyond Broken Hill and even Trevor's wildest dreams.

Trevor Barry has called Broken Hill home his whole life. ZWO Ha 7nm filter 2in increases the contrast between nebula and night sky by helping to reduce the transmission of certain wavelengths of light, specifically those produced by artificial light including mercury vapour, and both high and low pressure sodium vapour lights and the unwanted natural light caused by neutral oxygen emission in our atmosphere (i.e. skyglow).

The ZWO Ha 7nm Filter filter has a bandpass of 7nm and passes light at 656nm wavelength, light transmission rate comes up to 80%. Best choice of narrowband H-alpha astrophotography filter for high-contrast imaging and revealing rich details of the nebula even in areas with strong light pollution, just prepare to experience the infinite fun with it!

Astronomical camera with large full well capacity
ASI585MM

ASI585MC adopts Sony IMX585 CMOS sensor. As one of ZWO's latest planetary cameras, it features a large sensor format of 1/1.2", a high resolution of 3840*2160, and a surprisingly amazing characteristic of ZERO AMP GLOW! The pixel size is 2.9um*2.9um. In 12-bit mode, it produces 46.9 FPS with super low readout noise!

8.29MP Senor

ASI585MM has the same pixel size of the ASI462MC at 2.9um, but its resolution is 4 times that of ASI462MC, which is a total of 8.29 megapixels. The sensor size is 11.13*6.26mm, and the diagonal length is 12.84mm. The 1/1.2" large sensor format makes it very suitable for solar and lunar imaging. It can also be used as an all-sky camera or live camera to observe and monitor cloud cover, rain, meteors and other weather conditions.

STARVIS 2

ASI585MM adopts the Latest SONY IMX585 sensor with STARVIS 2 technology. Featuring zero amp glow, lower dark current noise, and 3 times larger full well capacity, this camera is regarded as an upgrade of ASI485MC. It is also more sensitive to red, green and near infrared (NIR) lights compared to ASI485MC, especially in >850nm wavelength range, its light sensitivity is 1.5 times greater than ASI485MC.

Upgraded Model

The ASI585MM is an upgraded camera to the ASI485. Compared with the ASI485MC, it has the characteristics of a larger full well depth and no amp glow.

Thanks to the back-illuminated sensor structure and advanced pixel technology, the camera has very low readout noise and a large full well depth. Especially in low light conditions, the camera performs excellent, capturing very clear images of celestial objects.

The camera has a built-in HCG mode, which can effectively reduce readout noise at high gain and allow the camera to m aintain the same high dynamic range as it does at low gain. When the gain is 150, the HCG mode is automatically turned on and the dynamic range reaches a level close to 12bit. The readout noise is as low as 0.8e.

Design

At the heart of the Founder Optics FOT016 is premium performance 3-element ED APO triplet refractor, designed by a famous optical designer in based in Japan. The optical performance is impressive as a two ED glass elements are employed.

Unlike most ED triplet telescopes which use only 1 ED glass element, Founder Optics adopted 2 ED glass of S-FPL 53 and S-FPL 51 to bring a remarkable image that you'll immediately spot with even a casual viewing. With two fluoro-crown ED glass elements and fully multi-coated optics, these Founder Optics refractors provide a crystal clear, superb sharp, zero aberration and distortion image to your eyes or camera sensor.

In addition, each element is fully separated or air spaced which is not common even among APO triplet telescopes. This offers further improvements to the already impressive optical quality. 

Quality

In order to complete this unique design, it requires a very high level machining and assembly capability. Founder Optics partner with an experienced factory located in Taiwan with over 50 years experience in precision manufacturing, especially for Japanese companies. 

Besides manufacturing know-how, the high standard of quality control is also crucial to producing FOT86 and FOT106 telescopes. This is recorded in a Quality Certification Card.

2sets of 4pcs ball bearing at 2 sides between the drawtube and the focuser handle linear travel of the focuser. Once the locked the knob, there is no gap among the drawtube, 8pcs ball bearings, and the focuser cover. It does not only keep the focuser always paralleled the optic axis, but also keep it moved very smoothly.

Unique Lock Function–  Heavy Loading Capability!

Special lock grabs the rack& pinion & drawtube in two directions. The design makes the focuser always paralleled the optics axis. Instead of pushing against the drawtube to eliminate focus shift while it’s focused. And it can handle up to 8kg as well for complex imaging trains.

Unlike other focusers, the long travel 95mm provides more room for adjust for fine and accurate focus.
