Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 HD combines flat-field optics and StarSense AutoAlign with a rechargeable, WiFi-enabled mount for visual astronomy.
The EdgeHD design reduces off-axis coma and field curvature, helping stars stay better corrected across the view.
The included 40 mm and 13 mm eyepieces give approximately 51x and 156x. Start at lower power to find and frame a target.
StarSense AutoAlign reads the star field to align the mount. After alignment, the motors locate and track selected objects.
The single-fork Evolution mount combines motorised pointing with manual movement in altitude and azimuth. Carry handles and accessory trays make the observing setup easier to manage.
Worm gears drive both axes, while the altitude and azimuth clutches allow manual positioning for setup and storage.

Follow the first-use alignment and camera-calibration procedure. Once calibrated, StarSense can automatically align at the start of later sessions. StarSense calibration instructions.
Choose a target after alignment and let GoTo move the telescope. Tracking keeps the view centred as the Earth rotates. Evolution setup manual.
Fully charge before the first session. During storage, recharge every 3 to 6 months rather than leaving the battery flat.
The supplied alt-azimuth mount tracks objects for eyepiece observing. Lunar and planetary imaging uses an additional camera and suitable adapters.
Alt-azimuth tracking still allows the field to rotate during long exposures. The optional Celestron 93665 wedge lists Evolution 8HD compatibility. It fits between mount and tripod; polar alignment is required for equatorial tracking.
The hand control can use any AUX port. There is no built-in GPS, autoguide port or periodic error correction.
The EdgeHD tube is Fastar/HyperStar compatible. Imaging at f/2 requires a compatible optional HyperStar lens and camera. The model-specific optional EdgeHD reducer gives f/7.
The assembled kit weighs approximately 19.1 kg. Plan transport and assembly around the tube, mount and tripod.
Release the clutches for setup or storage. If you move an aligned telescope manually, repeat alignment before using GoTo.
Never look at the Sun without a suitable, securely fitted front aperture solar filter. Never project the Sun or use an eyepiece solar filter or Herschel wedge. Permanent eye injury can result. Supervise children.
