203.2 mm optics with Evolution GoTo control

Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 combines SCT optics with a rechargeable, WiFi-enabled mount for visual astronomy and short-exposure imaging.

203.2 mmaperture

Schmidt-Cassegrain optics

StarBright XLT coatings and a folded optical path bring substantial aperture to a compact optical tube.

2032 mmfocal length

Two starting magnifications

The included 40 mm and 13 mm eyepieces give approximately 51x and 156x. Start at lower power to find and frame a target.

GoTomotorised pointing

Align, then select a target

After you centre three bright stars with SkyAlign, the mount can locate selected objects and track them for comfortable observing.

Manual clutches and carry handles

The single-fork Evolution mount combines motorised pointing with manual movement in altitude and azimuth. Carry handles and accessory trays make the observing setup easier to manage.

Worm gears drive both axes, while the altitude and azimuth clutches allow manual positioning for setup and storage.

Three stars, then motorised target finding

01

Connect to the mount

Use built-in WiFi with SkyPortal on a compatible phone or tablet, or use the included NexStar+ hand control.

02

Centre three bright stars

SkyAlign guides you through centring three bright stars. You do not need to know their names; this step establishes where the telescope is pointing.

03

Select an object

Choose a target after alignment and let GoTo move the telescope. Tracking keeps the view centred as the Earth rotates. Evolution setup manual.

Rechargeable power built into the mount

Up to 10 hoursRated observing runtime from the integrated battery. Actual endurance varies with use.
LiFePO4 batteryRechargeable lithium iron phosphate chemistry. Use the supplied AC adapter to charge the telescope.
USB chargingThe mount’s USB output can top up a smart device during an observing session.

Fully charge before the first session. During storage, recharge every 3 to 6 months rather than leaving the battery flat.

Plan the imaging accessories and connections

Visual and short-exposure use

The supplied alt-azimuth mount tracks objects for eyepiece observing. Lunar and planetary imaging uses an additional camera and suitable adapters.

Long-exposure deep-sky imaging

Alt-azimuth tracking still allows the field to rotate during long exposures. The optional Celestron 93665 wedge lists Evolution 8 compatibility. It fits between mount and tripod; polar alignment is required for equatorial tracking.

Four AUX ports

The hand control can use any AUX port. There is no built-in GPS, autoguide port or periodic error correction.

Good to know

01

Allow for the complete setup

The assembled kit weighs approximately 18.4 kg. Plan transport and assembly around the tube, mount and tripod.

02

Manual movement resets alignment

Release the clutches for setup or storage. If you move an aligned telescope manually, repeat alignment before using GoTo.

03

Solar observing requires specialist protection

Never look at the Sun without a suitable, securely fitted front aperture solar filter. Never project the Sun or use an eyepiece solar filter or Herschel wedge. Permanent eye injury can result. Supervise children.
