18x reach. A steadier hand-held view.

The Canon 18x50 IS image stabilised binoculars pair high magnification with optical shake correction for distant wildlife and astronomical observing.

18xmagnification

Bring distant subjects closer.

High optical magnification makes distant details larger in the view.

50 mmobjectives

Large front lenses.

The objective diameter sets the size of the light-gathering lenses.

65 mat 1000 m

Know how much fits in the view.

The 3.7° real field spans 65 m at a distance of one kilometre.

1.2 kgapprox., without batteries

Plan for full-size handling.

Allow for the weight during longer hand-held sessions.

Press to steady the detail.

Gyros detect movement and the Vari-Angle Prism system adjusts the optical path to reduce hand shake. The correction range is ±0.7°.

  • Brief lookHold the IS button; release to stop.
  • Longer lookPress and release for five minutes of stabilisation. Press again to stop.

Severe shaking can exceed the stabiliser’s correction ability.

Control colour fringing and edge blur.

UD glass

Ultra-low Dispersion glass helps reduce chromatic aberration, the colour fringing that can appear around high-contrast edges.

Doublet field flattener

Two field-flattener lenses reduce field curvature to help maintain sharpness towards the edge of the view.

Super Spectra coating

Multicoating reduces unwanted reflections to help preserve image contrast and colour.

Two AA batteries. Runtime depends on the cold.

2 × AAPower for optical stabilisation. Ordinary binocular viewing still works without batteries.
At 25°CApprox. 2.5 hours with alkaline AA cells, or 8 hours with lithium AA cells.
At −10°CApprox. 10 minutes with alkaline AA cells, or 3.5 hours with lithium AA cells.

Continuous IS figures under Canon’s test conditions. Actual life varies with use and conditions. Lithium AA batteries are recommended for cold-weather use.

Good to know.

01

Rain resistant. Keep them out of water.

Suitable for rain, including heavy rain, but not underwater use. Wipe the body dry before opening the battery compartment.

02

Fold the eyecups back with glasses.

The 15 mm eye relief provides space between your eyes and the eyepieces. Fold back the rubber eyecups when wearing glasses.

03

Made for subjects beyond about 6 m.

The minimum focus distance is approximately 6 m. Allow for this when viewing nearby birds or wildlife.

04

A tripod remains an option.

The body has a standard 1/4 inch tripod socket for supported observing. The 58 mm front filter thread accepts suitably sized filters. Tripod and filters are optional.

05

Never look at the Sun.

Do not look at the Sun or a bright light through these binoculars. Doing so can cause loss of vision.
