EdgeHD optical correction

A flatter field from centre to edge.

The aplanatic EdgeHD design reduces off-axis coma and field curvature. Celestron states that its focal plane is more than three times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain design, helping stars remain better corrected across full-frame sensors. StarBright XLT coatings support bright visual views.

Step 01

Connect through built-in WiFi.

Use a phone or tablet with the SkyPortal Powered by SkySafari app. The included hand control remains available, but it is optional when the app is used.

Step 02

Let StarSense read the sky.

StarSense scans star patterns and calculates the telescope's location, date and time. Up to 10 additional alignment stars can be added.

Step 03

Select the first target.

After alignment, choose an object in the app and command the Evolution mount to slew to it.

Power, tracking, connections and software work together.

The optical tube is only half the system. The mount is built to keep a long observing session moving from alignment to target selection and tracking.

Integrated power

Up to 10 hours without a separate field battery.

The built-in lithium iron phosphate battery is rated for a full extended observing session.

Drive system

Brass worm gears, DC servo motors and manual clutches.

Nine slew speeds reach up to 4 degrees per second, with sidereal, solar and lunar tracking rates.

Four AUX ports plus USB paths.

The hand control can use any AUX port. USB is available through the hand control input and mount output.

Detailed visual observing

Use the supplied 25 mm eyepiece for 94x magnification, then add compatible eyepieces as your observing develops.

Moon and planets

Attach a planetary imaging camera for short-exposure lunar and planetary capture.

Brighter deep-sky targets

Experiment with a DSLR on brighter objects. Add an equatorial wedge when longer exposures become the goal.

Equatorial imaging requires a wedge.

The supplied mount is an altitude-azimuth single-fork system. EQ North and EQ South alignment are available only with an equatorial wedge.

Solar observing needs a proper solar filter.

Never look at or project the Sun without the correct solar filter. Permanent eye injury and heat damage can result. Do not leave the telescope unsupervised around children.
