The Moon has the distinction of being the most often viewed celestial object through backyard telescopes. It is undoubtedly beautiful and mysterious, and is one of those constants in our lives that connects us to every other being on our planet. Regardless of who we are or where we live or travel, we all look at the same moon.

It is difficult to look at the Moon through a telescope and see all of the details due to its brightness. Our eyes are not ready for the bright beam of light that emits from the eyepiece, and they “stop down”, just as they would when you step out into the sunlight on a bright summer’s day. When we’re in the sunlight, we often wear sunglasses. They help us relax our eyes, protect us from glare, and help us see things more clearly. When amateur astronomers observe the Moon, we use a moon filter. A Celestron Moon Filter provides similar benefits to those of sunglasses...our eye relaxes and opens up to let us see more detail. This is especially important when observing the Moon when it is near full.

The Celestron Moon Filter simply screws onto the insert barrel of most 1.25” eyepieces. It only takes a second or two to transform your regular eyepiece into one suited for lunar observations. A Moon Filter is also helpful when observing Venus or bright terrestrial scenes. This filter is not suitable for viewing the Sun.

The ASI294 is the first camera in the world equipped with the latest Sony sensor IMX294CJK.

DDR Memory Buffer

The ASI294MC Pro camera includes a 256MB DDR3 memory buffer to help improve data transfer reliability. Additionally, the use of a memory buffer minimizes amp-glow, which is caused by the slow transfer speeds when the camera is used with a USB 2.0 port.

DDR memory buffer is the main difference between ASI “Cool” and “Pro” cameras.

14bit ADC w/ 13 stops DR

The ASI294 has a 14bit ADC unit, allowing it to achieve 13 stops of dynamic range. This is an excellent characteristic for deep sky imaging, which is inherently high dynamic range. At 13 stops, the ASI294 has even more dynamic range than the ASI1600.

HCG Mode

HCG (high conversion gain) mode, which reduces read noise to even lower levels at higher gain without loss to dynamic range, is automatically enabled when the gain setting is 120 or higher. Read noise will drop under 2e-, while dynamic range will remain at 13 stops.

Full well Capacity

63700e full well, which is 3 times than ASI1600’s capacity. Even bright stars won’t saturate under long exposure.

This camera can achieve higher SNR(signal to noise ratio) with just one single exposure.

Reliable Mechanics

ASI294MC Pro has same mechanics as ASI1600 Pro. There are four screws that seal the sensor chamber. Our camera design has been extensively tested and is very stable.

Even when used in higher humidity environments, ASI294MC Pro will still work fine without dew problems.

High QE

The IMX294 sensor is a BSI (backside illuminated type) sensor, which has very high QE (quantum efficiency, which we estimate is over 75% peak).

Dark Current

The dark current of the ASI294 is slightly higher than the ASI1600, based on our test results.

Easy as X-Y-Z

What makes NexYZ’s patented design different from other smartphone adapters? The three-axis adjustment. Most adapters rely on you placing your phone perfectly on the platform and only offer limited adjustment in two axes. Solar Warning

• Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with an optic (unless you have the proper solar filter). Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result.
• Never use your optic to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat build-up can damage the optic and any accessories attached to it.
• Never leave your optic unsupervised. Make sure an adult who is familiar with the correct operating procedures is with your optic at all times, especially when children are present.

ZWO 1.25″ IR UV CUT filter is suitable for colour camera with AR protect window.

The ZWO IR Cut Filter 1.25 blocks infrared light from reaching the sensor of your CCD or CMOS camera or your expensive H-alpha filter. When imaging, the addition of this simple and inexpensive accessory will result in sharper images, and when doing solar work, the IR Cut Filter will your protect H-alpha filter from the damaging effects of infrared radiation.

Infrared or IR light is invisible to the human eye, and so even though most telescopes are not designed to focus IR light, it does not matter when you are using your telescope visually. However, when you add a camera to the mix, its a whole other story! Unlike the human eye, a silicon sensor is very sensitive to light in the infrared portion of the spectrum, and that is a problem because infrared images are blurry as all get out. That means your nice, sharp visual light image is degraded by the addition of the infrared layer. This problem can easily be solved by blocking the infrared, and the ZWO IR Cu filter 1.25 will do just that.

The ZWO IR Cut filter is housed in a 1.25” cell, and has internal threads so that you can stack filters together. The filter comes with a protective plastic case.

Farpoint 2 Inch Collimation Kit

Farpoint Collimation Kit 2 Inch includes a 1.25″ and 2″ stepped barrel 650nm laser collimator plus 2″ cheshire. These tools help align the optical axes of the mirrors on a Newtonian Reflector.

You can easily add a second auxiliary port to your Celestron mount with the Celestron AUX Port Splitter. Volume 5 explores three very rich, and very different, constellations. Centaurus features a detailed overview of the Alpha Centauri system, descriptions of the Scorpius-Centaurus Association (the nearest OB affiliation to the Sun), and the stunning Omega Centauri globular cluster (NGC 5l39). Some time is also spent probing the many levels of the mysterious Centaurus A galaxy (NGC 5128), with its bizarre mixture of spiral and elliptical morphologies.

Cepheus may look dim to the unaided eye, but this constellation hosts some truly beautiful and beguiling objects. These include the star-forming region IC 1396 with its centerpiece, the Elephant Trunk Nebula (see cover image). We take a stroll down the Milky Way to visit several fine star clusters, some still associated with nebulosity, and other star-forming hotbeds.

Finally, Cetus leads us into a largely extragalactic realm where we find the nearby dwarf irregular IC l6l3, the edge-on spiral NGC 1055, and one of the brightest and nearest Seyfert 2 galaxies, M77. But the stars Mira and Tau Ceti are also on the itinerary, both of which have their stories to tell: one of a complex circumstellar environment, the other of possible extraterrestrial life.

We cannot visit these celestial marvels in our own hyperdrive spacecraft (yet), but Annals of the Deep Sky is the next best thing. Turn to page 1 and let it fly you across the universe.
