Celestron's new NexStar Evolution Wedge turns their venerable single fork arm telescopes into portable astroimaging powerhouses.
The very popular NexStar SE and NexStar Evolution telescopes are great for astrophotography, however an EQ wedge is necessary to take longer exposures and use an autoguider.
Why Do I Need a Wedge for Imaging?
Alt-Az tracking keeps objects centered, but a long enough exposure will reveal they rotate in the field of view. Adding a wedge allows the mount to track equatorially, thereby eliminating field rotation.
Celestron's NexStar Evolution Wedge was reengineered from the ground-up, specifically tailored to the NexStar Evolution and SE’s size and styling. Weight is minimal to keep the whole setup light and portable, yet the platform is sturdy to support taking long exposure astrophotos.
Unlock the full imaging potential from your NexStar Evolution or SE 6/8 mount with the NexStar Evolution Wedge!
Suits the following model telescopes:
- NexStar Evolution 6, NexStar Evolution 8 and NexStar Evolution 9.25*
- NexStar 6SE and NexStar 8SE
* Note: The NexStar Evolution 9.25 is also compatible with the sturdier Celestron HD Pro Wedge.

Description
Astronomer by night, astronomer by day! Observe the closest star to Earth during the day with the Vespera solar filter. The filter allows you to observe sunspots (dark spots) that show the intensity of the Sun’s activity.
Photograph the Sun with Vespera
The Solar Pointing mode allows you to observe the Sun in almost real-time using the live display*. Capture photos at any time from the Observation tab of the Singularity mobile app.
Take several shots at different times of the day, week or month and compare your photos. Witness how the Sun’s activity changes with the appearance or disappearance of sunspots. These can have a life span of several days, more rarely several weeks.
Observe safely
The filter is made of a metalized foil with a dimming effect. It will reduce the amount of light and allow you to observe the Sun in a way that is safe for your instrument. You will be guided through every step of your adventure by the Solar Pointing mode of the Vaonis Singularity app, to ensure the observation runs smoothly and that you and your instrument are safe.
Learn more in the Vaonis blog article Observing the solar activity with Vespera.
Warnings
- Your Vespera station should never be pointed towards the sun unless a solar filter is installed.
- You can only use Vespera to observe the sun using the Solar Pointing feature of the Singularity app and the solar filter specially designed by Vaonis. The use of any other means to observe the Sun (pointing by coordinates, pointing by hand, use of any other filter, etc.) would void your warranty in the event of damage to your equipment.
- Never look directly at the sun without adequate protection. Direct observation of the sun without protection and without a solar filter, even for a short time, can lead to serious eye burns and potential loss of vision or even blindness.
- Do not attempt to open the lens ring that contains the filter

M42, NGC 1976 (Great Orion Nebula) -Simon Lewis
STARVIS 2
STARVIS 2 was developed by SONY and evolved from STARVIS. It is the latest technology with a wider dynamic range and super-high sensitivity beyond the human eye. Benefiting from it, ASI585MC Pro’s sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio is greatly improved.
Large Full Well Capacity
The back-illuminated structure improves the camera’s full well capacity. Even with unbinned 2.9μm pixels, ASI585MC Pro has a full well capacity of 40ke-, nearly 3 times that of the last-generation sensor IMX485. A larger full well capacity gets the camera higher efficiency in collecting light, can effectively restrain the highlight area from being overexposed, and also can improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
Zero Amp Glow
ASI585MC Pro exhibits extremely clean dark frames with zero amp glow! No matter how long the exposure and how high the gain value is, you can easily get clean and smooth astro images!
Note: This feature is implemented directly at the hardware level, it does not require software control.
512MB DDR3
ASI585MC Pro uses a USB 3.0 interface, along with the built-in 512MB DDR3 cache, ensuring high-speed, smooth, and stable data transmission.
USB 3.0 Port & USB 2.0 HUB
USB 3.0 Port: Provides 5Gb bandwidth to allow ASI585MC Pro to run at 47fps at 8.29MP full resolution (10bit, high-speed mode).
USB 2.0 HUB: Can be used to connect various kinds of USB devices such as EFW, guide camera, and EAF.
Two-stage TEC Cooling
Thanks to the two-stage TEC cooling, ASI585MC Pro can lower the CMOS sensor temperature to more than 35 degrees Celsius below ambient temperature, which can greatly reduce dark current generation and sensor noise even during extended exposure times.
*The Delta T 35℃ is tested at 30℃ ambient temperature. It might get down when the cooling system is working for a long time. Also, as the ambient temperature falls, the Delta T would decrease.
Below is the dark current curve of ASI585MC Pro at the temperature from -20℃ to 30℃.
Camera Performance
Low read noise, High dynamic range
The camera has a built-in HCG mode, which can effectively reduce read noise at high gain and allow the camera to maintain the same high dynamic range as it does at low gain. When the gain reaches 252, the HCG mode will be automatically turned on and the dynamic range reaches a level close to 11bit. The read noise in this case can be as low as 0.9e. QE (Quantum efficiency)
Based on our testing results, the QE peak value of ASI585MC Pro is 91%. Connection Methods (Back Focus Distance: 55mm)

Star Analyser 200
Since its launch in 2005, the Star Analyser 100 has introduced thousands of amateur astronomers worldwide to the fascinating field of spectroscopy. Over this period, the equipment used by amateurs has evolved with larger aperture telescopes, bigger camera sensors and close coupled filter wheels becoming more common. The Star Analyser 200 model has been developed with these users in mind.
Using the same Paton Hawksley high efficiency blazed diffraction grating technology as the SA100, but with double the line density. The SA200 is designed for applications where it is difficult to achieve the optimum spacing needed for the SA100. The SA200 gives the same length of spectrum at half the spacing compared with the SA100.

Warning:
Never look directly at the sun without correct filters.
Permanent eye damage can happen
The Celestron PowerSeeker Accessory Kit is a great way to expand the enjoyment of your telescope. Inside the plastic, foam-lined carry case you’ll find these accessories:
- 15mm Kellner Eyepiece - 1.25”
- 9mm Kellner Eyepiece - 1.25”
- #80A Blue Filter - 1.25”
- #25 Red Filter - 1.25”
- Moon Filter - 1.25”
- Microfiber Cleaning Cloth
Eyepieces - The 15mm and 9mm eyepieces can be used in any telescope with a 1.25” focuser. Each eyepiece is fully coated to improve light transmission and protect the optics. The 15mm Kellner eyepiece offers a nice medium magnification view in most telescopes, and the 9mm provides high magnifications, great for the Moon and planets, especially when seeing conditions are good.
Filters - Coloured filters can be used to bring out certain details on a planet’s surface or its cloud structure. Both planetary filters, as well as the Moon filter, can be used on any 1.25” eyepiece with the proper filter threads, so they are very versatile. Just screw one onto your eyepiece of choice and slide it into the focuser.
- The #80A is a medium-blue filter that enhances the contrast of the cloud belts on Jupiter and the polar ice caps on Saturn. It also can be used to increase contrast on the Moon if you don’t mind the color shift.
- The #25 filter is a deep red color and is a good choice when you want to define the polar ice caps on Mars. It’s also fun to use this filter when observing Jupiter. The #25 Red filter blocks quite a bit of light coming through your telescope, however, so it is best used on bright objects with larger aperture telescopes.
- The Moon filter is one of the first accessories most new amateur astronomers buy, and for good reason! It helps block out a portion of the light the Moon sends into your eyepiece so that you can see details better. You can also try this filter on Venus; it helps you see which phase she’s in.
Cleaning Cloth & Case - Keep the microfiber cleaning cloth stashed in your PowerSeeker Accessory Kit case so that it will always be handy. It’s better to use a microfiber cloth on your optics than wipes or tissue, as it will not leave a residue, and can be reused. Remember to blow or brush any dust particles off of your optics before rubbing them with the cloth.
The black plastic carry case has die-cut foam inside to protect and cushion your accessories. Keep each one in its appointed place when not in use and you’ll keep them looking and performing like new.

Celestron EdgeHD 9.25 OTA
See the Universe in HD
EdgeHD is an aplanatic, flat field Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope that produces aberration-free images across a wide visual and photographic field of view. The optical system was designed to reduce more than just off-axis star coma; it also provides an astrograph-quality flat focal plane all the way to the edge of the field of view.
True Astrograph Quality
Many optical designs that advertise themselves as "astrographs" actually only produce pinpoint stars across a curved focal plane. While this may be acceptable for some visual observing, stars will appear out of focus at the edge when used with the flat chip sensor of a digital camera. EdgeHD optics produce a focal plane more than three-times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and dramatically flatter than competing coma-free designs. This guarantees you visibly sharp stars across some of the largest CCD chips available today.
Improved Performance
Superior edge performance not only creates rounder, more pleasing stars, but actually improves the resolution and limiting magnitude when compared to telescopes of equal aperture. With Celestron’s StarBright XLT optical coatings on every surface, EdgeHD optics gives you maximum light throughput across the widest visual and photographic spectrum.
Mechanical Features
In addition to EdgeHD’s optimized optical design, the telescope tube has been redesigned to make sure you get the most from your optics each and every night.
- Mirror clutches - Flexible tension clutches hold the mirror in place and reduce image shift when taking long exposure astro-images. Once focused, the flexible rods allow the mirror to be held in place without putting any force or pressure on the mirror assembly, keeping the image centered in the eyepiece (or on the sensor).
- Tube vents - Cooling vents located on the rear cell allow hot air to be released from behind the primary mirror. Each vent has an integrated 95-micron micromesh filter guaranteed to let warm air out without letting dust in.
- Fastar versatility - EdgeHD is the most versatile imaging telescope available today. At its native f/10, you can achieve the image scale necessary to capture the smallest of deep sky objects. Add the optional reducer lens—custom-designed for your size EdgeHD tube—and you can increase your field of view without sacrificing optical performance. A Barlow gives you added power for high-resolution planetary, lunar and solar imaging. All EdgeHD optical tubes are Fastar-compatible, allowing the secondary mirror to be removed and replaced with a third party lens accessory for ultra-fast f/2 wide field imaging.
Individually Tested
Every EdgeHD that ships has been tested not only for the surface quality of each optical component, but also with a camera and artificial star to ensure the imaging system meets our rigid quality assurance. This “final acceptance test” confirms the EdgeHD will perform in the field and deliver high-quality astroimages.

ZWO ASI6781MC
ZWO ASI678MC adopts Sony's Latest generation sensor IMX678 with excellent near-infrared response. With the advantages of Large full well capacity, high dynamic range and low readout noise, this camera has been tested and found to have perfect performance in planetary imaging, solar and lunar imaging. Clear in low light
Thanks to the back-illuminated sensor structure and advanced pixel techno[ogy, the camera has very low readout noise and an ultra-high sensitivity. Especially in Low light conditions, the camera performs very well and is able to capture very clear images of celestial objects. STARVIS 2
ZWO ASI678MC can be regarded as an upgrade of ASI178MC. It adopts the latest SONY IMX678 sensor with advanced STARVIS 2 technology. Compared to ASI178MC, this camera features zero amp glow, lower readout noise and higher sensitivity. The dark current noise is greatly decreased; the performance of near-infrared is greatly improved. USB 3.0 & 256M DDR3 Memory
The camera is equipped with a USB 3.0 transmission interface and a built-in 256MB DDR3 cache to ensure stable and secure data transmission. Under Long exposure, it effectively avoids frame dropping and greatly reduces the glow effect caused by slow reading speed. Upgraded Model
The ZWO ASI678MC is an upgraded product of the ASI178MC. Compared to the ASI178MC, the ASI678MC has lower read noise, lower dark noise, and no amp glow. No Amp Glow ZWO ASI678MC exhibits zero amp glow, no matter how long the exposure and how high the gain value is. Since it is implemented directly at the hardware level, it does not require software control. HCG Mode
The camera has a built-in I-ICG mode, which can effectively reduce readout noise at high gain. This allows the camera to maintain the same high dynamic range as it does at [ow gain. When the gain is 182, the I-ICG mode is automatically turned on. The readout noise is as low as 0.8e, and the dynamic range can still reach a level close to 12bit. Quantum Efficiency
The QE curve and readout noise are very important parameters to measure the camera's performance. Higher QE and tower readout noise are necessary to improve the image signal-to-noise ratio. Dark Current Noise
ASI678MC has much lower dark current noises than ASI178, bringing it has better image signal-to-noise ratios. If we compare the darks frames captured with these two cameras, it can be easily found that the frame from ASI678 has much Less noise and rooks much smoother. SKU: ZWO-ASI678MC

After years of R&D we have developed a new solar film that has the optical quality of glass with the advantages of impregnated polymer. Will never develop pinholes or scratches that can let in light and ruin a filter. Other advantages: lightweight and does not require re-balancing tube assembly, will not break, consistent yellow-orange solar image, even density with any aperture, flat surface compared to other thin film filters that have wrinkles and creases. Will not tear or puncture. Stronger than any other solar film on the market. Also available in sheets. Guaranteed 15 years.
What Size Do I Order?
To ensure the best fit for your application, it’s essential to measure the outside diameter (O.D.) of your telescope or lens. We cannotrecommend a filter size based on the model number of your telescope/lens, so please take the following steps to find the correct size:
- Remove the protective cap/cover that covers the objective glass on the end of your telescope/lens.
- Measure the O.D. of your telescope tube or binocular barrel at its widest point, taking into account any obstructions/taper within 1 1/4in from the end of the tube.
- Select the appropriate O.D. range for your measurement using the dropdown menu above. The dropdown menu lists the O.D. ranges available for our filter sizes and will point you to the correct part # for your O.D.
- Note: The O.D. ranges account for the minimum clearance require for the filter to fit.
Alternatively:
- Choose the closest cell O.D. that is at least 1/16″ (1.58mm) larger than the O.D. measurement of your instrument. For example, if your O.D. measurement is 4″(101.6mm), choose a cell with an O.D. of 4-1/4″(107.9mm) part # S-4250.
- Avoid selecting a size that is the same as your O.D., since it will be too tight
- Note: The 1/16″ of clearance is factored into the O.D. ranges in the dropdown menu above.
The solar filter comes with self-adhesive felt for custom fitting, but you can also find additional felt, Velcro, or other materials at most fabric or home improvement stores.
Please use the size chart below to select the appropriate size for your application. The chart lists sizes by clear aperture (filter size in the center of the cell) and O.D. of the aluminum cell (inside cell wall that fits over and around telescope tube). Please note that we cannot take orders for felt.
OPEN TRUSS TELESCOPES:
If the solar filter is to be used on an open truss telescope, the open area from front (secondary mirror) to back (primary mirror) must be covered. No direct sunlight should enter the optical path or the concentrated beam from the mirror can focus on the back of the solar filter film and cause damage and void warranty.

Celestron’s EdgeHD reducers feature a custom 4-element optical design engineered to maintain the flat-field performance of our award winning EdgeHD optical system. Unlike generic reducers, our premium reducers provide substantial back focus to accommodate an assortment of imaging accessories.
EdgeHD reducers offer high index optical elements, including extra low dispersion, exotic Lanthanum elements, which provide high contrast viewing while minimizing chromatic aberration. All air to glass lens surfaces feature multiple layers of coating for maximum light transmission and color correction and contain blacken edges to minimize internal reflection and maximize image contrast. Large diameter lens elements, up to 60 mm clear aperture, ensure that the optimized image circle remains at a generous 42 mm for use with large CCD sensors.
Incorporating computer assisted CNC machined aluminum housing, for precise spacing and alignment of optical elements, and threaded metal covers on the lens assembly to protect your investment from dust and scratches, our reducers offer you an outstanding mechanical design.
With the fastar option on all EdgeHD optical systems, coupled with the .7x reducer, your telescope becomes the most complete imaging system available in its price range today.
Performance
Design: 4-element optical layout designed specifically for the EdgeHD 9.25" to maintain the flat-field performance of the EdgeHD optical design
Maintains the same back focus as when used at f/10: Unlike generic reducers the EdgeHD .7x provides generous back focus to accommodate additional accessories and a wide variety of cameras. Also allows use of existing EdgeHD T-Adapters and other Celestron imaging accessories
One full F-Stop faster than f/10: Reduces the exposure time by one-half to capture the same brightness of object
Increase field of view by 43%: Better for capturing wide field images of larger galaxies and nebulae
Glass
Lanthanum Glass Elements: EdgeHD reducer uses "rare earth" Lanthanum glass elements for clear, high contrast viewing while minimizing chromatic aberration
Fully multi-coated lens elements: All air-to-glass surfaces have multiple layers of coating for maximum light transmission and color correction
Blacken edges: All lens elements have blacken edges to minimize internal reflection and maximize contrast

High quality, fast refractors have a lot going for them when it comes to astrophotography but they come with a downside - field curvature. This is where the image comes to sharp focus on a curved surface. The problem is that the sensors in cameras are flat. The larger the sensor - like those used in cameras with APS-C sized or larger sensors or DSLR cameras - the more effect is noticed.
A field flattener brings the image to focus on a flat surface, like your camera's sensor. At the same time, the basic optical performance of your telescope remains the same.
You will need 55mm of backfocus.
The Bintel T-thread Spacer Ring Kit (sold separately) is recommended to achieve proper distance for use with CMOS imagers.
Use with a DSLR only requires a T-ring for the camera (T-ring sold separately).

Annals of the Deep Sky - Vol 9 is a comprehensive reference that guides amateur and semipro astronomers into every mind-boggling corner of the observational universe. Each volume presents extensive descriptions of prominent stars and deep-sky objects. No other popular work in astronomy provides the comprehensive historical background and astrophysical appraisals of prominent stars and celestial objects.
This volume is dedicated to the Milky Way’s nearest and largest satellite galaxies, the Magellanic Clouds. Throughout history they have been the subject of awe and wonder, catching the eye of Indigenous peoples of Australia and New Zealand, 16th century mariners, and astronomy’s pioneer observers such as Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille, James Dunlop, and John Herschel. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, northern astronomers began traveling to the Southern Hemisphere to photograph, map out, and study the celestial constituents of what they referred to as Nubecula Major and Nubecula Minor. This book presents not only a thorough historical account of the clouds dating back 40,000 years, but also how astronomers’ ideas of the Clouds have changed over the decades — particularly on the Clouds’ origins, interactions with the Milky Way, and the quizzical aspects of star formation posed by their many unusual clusters and H II regions. Come discover the observational richness and astrophysical conundrums that are the Magellanic Clouds, true treasure islands lying just beyond our Galactic shores.
Annals of the Deep Sky - Vol 9 also includes two special fold-out maps for exploring the Magellanic Clouds in more detail, one showing the Large Magellanic Cloud and the other the Small Magellanic Cloud plus extra detail on the Tarantula Nebula, the star-forming region also known as 30 Doradus.
Author Jeff Kanipe has released the latest edition of this great series and for those of us in the South we are blessed. Volume 9 covers the Magellanic Clouds. Definitely will be in my Library of Southern Hemisphere books, can’t wait.
