The Saxon 12" DeepSky (305/1500)Dobsonian Telescope is the perfect partner to begin your astronomy adventure with. This affordable telescope comes with a "paraboloidal" primary mirror to eliminate spherical aberration and a four-arm, secondary-mirror bracket with fine supports (0.5mm thick) to reduce diffraction spikes and light loss.
This telescope comes with an aperture of 305mm and a focal length of 1500mm in a 12" tube. This scope features quality parts and accessories - the special roller-bearing construction, Crayford focuser, eyepieces and finderscope are all designed to aid with your observing experience. Once assembled and with a little practice, you'll soon be able to find and view the rocky surfaces of the Moon, planets in the Solar System as well as deep sky objects such as star clusters, double stars, nebulae and galaxies.
The Saxon 12" DeepSky Dobsonian Telescope requires no additional tools during assembly and is incredibly easy to use, making it the perfect scope for beginner astronomers.
What is Dobsonian Telescope and Why the Tension Control Handle?
A simple, elegant form of an alt-azimuth mount made to carry a Newtonian reflector was popularized by John Dobson in the late 1970's. The Dobsonian mounted telescope is popular among amateur astronomers and telescope makers because of its simplicity. In its simplest form, the Dobsonian mount consists of a box which allows the optical tube assembly to pivot in altitude, while the box itself is swivelled on a base in azimuth.
The Dobsonian mount usually relies on the friction between the side bearings on the optical tube of the telescope and a frictional material on the saddle to hold the optical tube in place. If there is too much friction, the telescope is difficult to move to center an object in the filed of view. If there is too little friction, the telescope will not sty where it is positioned. This makes stabilizing the optical tube of the telescope difficult when using a Dobsonian mount, especially when accessories, such as a finderscope or an eyepiece, are added to the optical tube. As long as the amount of friction is at an appropriate level, and therefore stabilization of the optical tube is achieved, the telescope can remain in its desired position to view an object and maintain its position even when the mount is rotated.
The devices for stabilizing a telescope on the Dobsonian mount currently available include: a sliceable weight to counter balance the weight of the telescope, a friction lock that must be adjusted to inhibit movement of the telescope, and a spring attached between the telescope tube and mount to aid in stabilization.
These devices are inconvenient to use because they do not provide a simple and user-friendly way to adjust the friction. The objective of the saxon Tension Control Handle invention is to provide a tension adjuster that users can easily turn to add or reduce tension, thereby increasing or decreasing the friction between the optical tube and the sideboard of the mount.
By providing such a tension adjuster, the telescope does not need to be balanced in order to stay in position. The tension adjuster can be tightened such that the optical tube can stay in a position but can still be moved when prompted to adjust the position of the optical tube. Alternatively, the tension adjuster can be completely tightened to lock the optical tube in position.
The ZWO FF65 APO is a refractive astrograph with a powerful flatfield optical design which saves you from the expensive cost of a field flattener. It eliminates the trouble of calculating the back focus distance of the flattener and connecting various accessories to achieve that distance. You can just connect any possible accessories you need. As long as the target is focused, the whole optical system is perfect for imaging. This makes the whole setting up process much more convenient, and saves you time, allowing you to pay more attention to the image shooting itself.
The ZWO FF65 APO is also a nice choice for your visual observation. It fits diagonals as well as various eyepieces and can achieve a perfect focus, and can even be used to observe planets with a super-high magnification eyepiece.
The whole design of the telescope is compact and lightweight. The OTA weighs only 2kg, and the full package with tube rings and other accessories weighs 2.8kg. It has an aperture of 65mm. The focal ratio is f/6.4 and the focal length is 416mm. Instead of the quadruplet structure of the other ZWO FF APO Refractors, the FF65 APO is a quintuplet, with two ed Glass elements that offer excellent control of Chromatic and other aberrations.
The ZWO FF65 APO supports the full-frame imaging circle and has a fine spot diagram with tiny distortions of the peripheral stars. The 2.5" rigid focuser comes with a new-type 360°rotator with scales and a finder base. M68, M54, and M48 camera adapters are also attached, and the M48 adapter has a 2” female thread for installing filters.

Tele Vue-NP101is
We were determined to make the NP series optically, mechanically, and functionally as perfect as possible for imaging up to 50mm diagonal chips without penalty to its near-ideal visual operation. (Reviewer Note.) How? By applying the developments created for the Tele Vue-60is to the new NP101is and NP127is and then going beyond.
The NP101 (540mm, f/5.4, 4") maintains its optical specifications yet with a redesigned 4-element optical system. Larger rear lens groups absolutely minimize vignetting in formats up to 50mm diagonal. For these large chips, an optional field corrector was developed so the corners of the newly brightened edges would virtually be as perfect as the center of the field.
Next, to take full advantage of the larger lenses, we developed a larger focuser and draw tube having a 3" front aperture and 2.4" rear aperture. This eliminates any restriction of the larger diameter converging light cone. We build and test the rack and pinion focuser to hold more than 5kg of weight, yet still permit extremely fine focusing control via a 10:1 dual-speed pinion assembly. This new draw tube also permits quick change from visual to imaging operation and allows full camera rotation without focus change. In addition, it has the capability to correct for any residual focal plane tilt and accepts a "position stop" for our digital micrometer to allow repeatable focus measurement to 0.0001".
To maintain squareness to the optical axis while changing camera orientation, the drawtube has four lock screws that tighten against a taper on the "imaging insert" ring. This insert is threaded to accept Tele Vue's new Imaging System accessories including large diameter extension tubes, optical accessories, and camera and CCD attachments, all with mating threads.
The Focusmate 10:1 planetary ball type reduction focuser provides extremely sensitive focus adjustment, measurable with the optional Digital Micrometer Kit to better than 1/10,000". Also, the optional Focusmate Driver permits electronic motor control of the focusing process. The Focusmate Driver has direction push-buttons and adjustable speed. A tap on the button permits vibration-free focusing in steps as small as approximately 0.0005". The Focusmate Driver can be remotely computer-controlled with Focusmaster Computer Interface.
Tele Vue has been known for producing visual instruments "even better than you imagined." We aim to achieve the same with our imaging equipment. Our dedicated local machinists and in-house staff are as committed as ever to deliver on these quality and performance goals.

- Designed for the amateur astronomer or photographer who wants to view and photograph the moon, planets, and deep sky objects.
- Features FPL53 "super" extra-low dispersion (ED) glass in a fully multicoated apochromatic lens system that corrects for both spherical and chromatic aberrations, astigmatism, and off-axis comas.
- This correction creates a wide flat field of view without distortion and removes the blue-tinted halo effect for true high-contrast color transmission.
- Can accept both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces and accessories for visual use.
- Threads on the drawtube allow direct connection of T-rings and other camera mounts.
A ring spacer placed around the objective lens refines star images beautifully in astrophotography.
In the previous SD81S model, a set of three tiny tin foils are placed around the objective lens as a spacer between the doublet lens. The end of the tin foils protruding over the objective lens obstruct the incoming light. As a result, the protruding tin foils make the light of diffraction of stars chipped radially. Exchanging the tin foils for the spacer ring makes the diffraction of the stars' light equal. It allows you to create more refined and beautiful star images in your astrophotography.
The SD lens suppresses residual chromatic aberration far below the threshold of visibility.
A lens of refracting telescopes has chromatic aberration which is caused by different wavelength of visible light (colors) focusing at different distances. The Vixen SD lenses, made of FPL53 super extra-low dispersion glass, allow for correcting the chromatic aberration over a wide spectrum of light. The SD81SII delivers outstandingly sharp images with high contrast for both visual and photographic applications. Moderately bright F7.7 images will satisfy the most demanding visual astronomer or astrophotographer.
A short optical tube in length is handy for not only visual observation but also astrophotography.
The ED81SII optical tube has a moderate short length to enable you to carry and set it up readily. Also, a lightweight optical tube allows you to balance it with fewer counterweights. The ED81S comes equipped with a metal carry handle and the Vixen standard dovetail slide bar M for quick attaching and detaching. The provided Flip mirror diagonal switches incoming light to allow for using two eyepieces of different magnifications alternately. Also, you can install a camera on the straight side and view an image through an eyepiece on the right-angled side of the flip mirror diagonal.
Full-frame imaging with a DSLR camera.
Using an SD reducer HD kit or an SD Flattener SD kit, which are available optionally, the SD80SII provides an image circle of 44mm, adequate for taking photos with a DSLR camera. (Photo) M8, M20 nebulae taken with Vixen SD81SII with SD reducer HD kit (compound focus 496mm) and Pentax K-1 at ISO1600, 49 minutes exposure.
Optional accessories to expand your pleasure of taking astrophotography.
SD Reducer HD Kit: This kit includes a flattener lens to be combined with a reducer lens for a flat and wide imaging field when you use them with the SD81SII, SD103SII, or SD115SII optical tube. The reducer lens reduces a focal length by 0.7X. Direct Wide Photo Adapter 60DX: It is available for Canon EOS or Nikon DSLR cameras. It is possible to change the orientation of a camera for a framing of the photographic field.
Wide Photo Adapter 60DX
High precision camera adapters for prime focus astrophotography are optionally available for Canon EOS and Nikon. The Wide Photo Adapter 60DX is designed to be an integrated camera mount reducing vignetting to the maximum. They are highly effective with full-frame DSLR cameras, and can be used with SD series refractors (in combination with the SD Reducer HD Kit or SD Flattener HD Kit).

f/2.75.
What used to take a week now takes a night.
The DeltaRho 280 Argus is PlaneWave’s observatory-class wide-field astrograph for serious imagers and sky-survey programmes. Fused silica quartz mirrors, a carbon fibre OTA, and a 55 mm image circle at f/2.75 — 280 mm of aperture that turns nights of integration into a few productive hours.
f/2.75 is not just fast. It is the difference between finishing a target tonight and coming back next month.
13× faster than f/10. Every photon counts more.
At f/2.75, the DeltaRho 280 gathers light 13 times faster than an f/10 instrument of identical aperture. That is not an incremental advantage — it is the difference between a productive one-hour session and a week of cloud-interrupted integration. Research programmes and sky surveys that would otherwise take months become achievable in a single season.
mm image circle — large enough to cover full-frame sensors and beyond, with sharp stars from centre to corner at 4.5 μm RMS or better at 27.5 mm off-axis.
Focus stays locked. All night.
Primary and secondary mirrors are optical-grade fused silica quartz — near-zero thermal expansion, the same material used in premier research observatories. As temperature drops through the night, conventional glass mirrors shift focus. The DR280’s quartz mirrors do not.
Stiff where it matters. Light where it counts.
Carbon fibre delivers exceptional torsional rigidity with minimal mass. At 14.5 kg for a 451 mm OTA, the DR280 is a 280 mm instrument that mounts on observatory-class and high-end portable mounts alike — without needing a counterweight upgrade.
Sensor alignment without shimming or guesswork.
The integrated tip-tilt focal plane adjuster lets you dial in perfect sensor tilt with precision — no shims, no trial-and-error. It is consistent, repeatable, and done in minutes at the start of any session.
The Heart Nebula. In one frame.
The 770.6 mm focal length paired with the 55 mm image circle delivers over 4 degrees of field of view. Large nebula complexes, galaxy groups, and wide-field targets that require mosaics on narrow-field systems fit comfortably into a single frame — or anchor a multi-panel survey.
Dew control built in. Session-ending fog, ruled out.
Integrated dew control heater technology keeps the optical path clear on humid Australian nights. One less cable to run, one less failure point — the DR280 keeps imaging when lesser rigs fog out and call it a night.
Collimation solved. From first session to thousandth.
The DeltaRho 280 ships with PlaneWave’s collimation software that walks you through mirror alignment step by step — no iterative star-testing, no guesswork. Set it once: the rigid carbon fibre structure holds alignment through the night. The low-profile focuser delivers 0.5 inches of travel from a 163 mm back focus distance, giving your imaging train room to breathe.
M51. The Whirlpool Galaxy.
Galaxy arms, tidal bridges, and foreground stars resolved in a single short session. At f/2.75, integration time that would fill a week on a slower system compresses to a few productive hours.
IC 1805. The Heart Nebula.
H-alpha, RGB narrowband composite. The 4-degree–plus field captures the Heart Nebula’s full complex and surrounding star-forming regions in a single pointing — a target that demands a mosaic from slower, narrower systems.
Built for imagers who treat every clear night as a resource. Nothing wasted.
280 mm (11″) aperture with fused silica (quartz) primary and secondary mirrors for temperature-stable performance
f/2.75 focal ratio — 13 times faster than f/10, reducing required integration time dramatically
55 mm image circle at 4.0 μm RMS on-axis and 4.5 μm RMS at the full 27.5 mm off-axis radius
Integrated tip-tilt focal plane adjuster for precise sensor alignment without physical shimming
Carbon fibre optical tube — 451 mm OTA, 14.5 kg total weight for use on observatory-class mounts
Built-in dew control heater and broadband AR coatings (<1% reflection, 400–800 nm) for consistent all-weather performance
4°+ field of view capability with a 55 mm sensor — ideal for large nebula complexes and sky surveys
Compatible with PlaneWave L350 Direct Drive Mount — designed as an integrated professional imaging system
Every number that matters.
Professional imaging. Backed by Australia’s telescope authority.

The fast SCT, reinvented.
8 inches. f/2.8. Carry-on weight.
The Observable Space FSCT8 is the first native f/2.8 Schmidt-Cassegrain ever built in an 8-inch form factor. A 42 mm image circle, fused silica quartz mirrors, and a 267 mm carbon-fibre OTA under 9 kg — designed from the optical axis out for astrophotographers who demand observatory results without the observatory.
Every clear night is too short. The FSCT8 makes sure you get the most out of every hour of it.
f/2.8 native. The SCT form factor finally fast.
A conventional 8-inch SCT runs at f/10. The FSCT8 runs at f/2.8 natively — no reducer stacks, no optical compromises. That is a 13-fold increase in photon-gathering speed. A four-hour integration target becomes roughly 20 minutes of effective exposure. For imagers working under Australian skies with limited clear nights, this is the most impactful single step up possible.
mm fully illuminated image circle. Sharp stars across the entire field at under 6.2 μm RMS — covering APS-C and most medium-format sensors with no vignetting.
Quartz mirrors. Focus doesn’t move.
Primary (210 mm) and secondary (114 mm) mirrors are both fused silica quartz — the same glass used in research-grade observatories. Near-zero thermal expansion means the focus point does not drift as temperature drops. Your collimation is still correct at 3 am.
267 mm OTA. Fits where full-size SCTs don’t.
The carbon-fibre upper cage is rigid, thermally stable, and keeps total OTA length at just 267 mm. That is shorter than many refractors. It mounts on mid-range equatorial platforms and travels as carry-on — without sacrificing the optical performance of a full 8-inch system.
Flat field. Corner to corner. No caveats.
The 88 mm broadband AR-coated corrector lens flattens the focal plane and holds sub-6.2 μm RMS optical performance across the full 42 mm image circle — from dead-centre to the corner of a full APS-C sensor.
Your full imaging train. No extensions required.
A 100 mm back focus from the mounting surface accommodates camera, filter wheel, electronic focuser, and off-axis guider without extension tubes. The 2.75 μm per arcsecond image scale is matched to modern small-pixel CMOS sensors — making the most of every pixel in the frame.
Purpose-built for imaging. Not retrofitted for it.
Observable Space — the PlaneWave and OurSky collaboration — built the FSCT8 as an imaging instrument from the ground up. Mirror material, corrector geometry, tube construction, back focus distance: every decision serves the astrophotographer. This is not a visual SCT with a reducer bolted on. It is a dedicated astrograph that fits in a carry-on bag.
8-inch aperture. Mid-range mount. Dark-sky remote site. All viable.
At under 9 kg and just 267 mm OTA length, the FSCT8 is mountable on equatorial platforms that a conventional 8-inch SCT with reducer stack would overload. It travels as carry-on, sets up in minutes, and puts professional-grade optical performance within reach of any dark-sky site — no permanent observatory required.
NGC 6992. The Eastern Veil Nebula.
Supernova remnant in Cygnus. Delicate filamentary emission structure that demands long exposures from slower systems resolves here in a fraction of the integration time — f/2.8 working exactly as intended.
M97. The Owl Nebula.
Planetary nebula in Ursa Major, approximately 2,600 light years distant. Extended shell structure and the characteristic owl-eye cavities resolved in a single night — a target that a slow system would need multiple sessions to match.
More signal per hour. Every clear night finally worth the effort.
Native f/2.8 focal ratio — the first fast SCT in an 8-inch system, designed for wide-field deep-sky imaging from the optical axis out
42 mm fully illuminated image circle with optical performance under 6.2 μm RMS across the full field — sharp stars edge to edge
Fused silica (optical-grade quartz) primary (210 mm) and secondary (114 mm) mirrors with enhanced aluminium coatings for temperature stability
Carbon-fibre upper cage construction — 267 mm OTA, under 9 kg total weight for use on mid-range to high-end imaging mounts
88 mm broadband AR-coated corrector lens delivers a flat focal plane and 2.75 μm per arcsecond image scale suited to modern CMOS sensors
100 mm back focus from mounting surface — accommodates cameras, filter wheels, and electronic focusers in a standard imaging train
4°+ field of view with a 42 mm sensor — ideal for large emission nebulae, galaxy groups, and all-sky survey programmes
An Observable Space instrument — the merger of PlaneWave precision optics engineering and OurSky imaging systems expertise, purpose-built for the astrophotographer
