APS-C monochrome for deep-sky imaging
The P25 version pairs Sony’s back-illuminated IMX571 monochrome sensor with a cooled body, native 16-bit conversion and a front tilt plate.
A detailed field
The 6248 × 4176 array covers 23.5 × 15.7 mm with 3.76 µm pixels.
Room for brighter signal
ZWO rates the revised sensor package at 73 ke⁻ per pixel.
Preserve tonal separation
ZWO measures up to 14 stops of dynamic range and recommends gain 0 or 100 for deep-sky imaging.
Keep the sensor cool on long integrations
Two-stage TEC cooling lowers sensor temperature to reduce dark current. A bonded window heater helps control dew, and the readout circuitry eliminates amp glow.

Sensor curves and setup diagrams

Full well
The charge a pixel can hold before saturation. The expanded full well is marked around 73,000 electrons. Capacity falls as gain rises.

Conversion gain
The electrons represented by one digital count. The number of electrons represented by each digital count falls as gain rises.

Dynamic range
The span between the noise floor and saturation. The range recovers at gain 100 before declining at higher settings.

Read noise
Noise introduced when the sensor is read. The high conversion gain step at 100 reduces read noise to around 1.4 electrons RMS in the plot.

Quantum efficiency
The monochrome quantum efficiency peaks just above 90% in the blue and falls towards the near infrared.

Dark current versus temperature
Dark current is charge that accumulates even with no light. This plot shows how cooling the sensor reduces its rate of accumulation.
