ZWO
ZWO ASI585MC Air Colour Smart Camera
$1,299.00
This product will be available for sale in 2 weeks, but you can pre-order now to receive 10% discount!
Image, guide and control the rig from one camera
The ASI585MC Air combines a cooled 4K colour imaging sensor, a separate monochrome guide sensor and built-in ASIAIR control. Both sensors look through the telescope, so the optics need to illuminate the offset guide sensor as well as the main frame.
Frame through a cooled Sony IMX585
The 2.9 µm pixels sample the main image. A UV/IR-cut protective window sits in front of the colour sensor.
Guide through the same optical train
The separate SC2210 sensor uses 4 µm pixels. Its offset position makes the telescope’s image circle part of the guiding setup.
Capture to the camera
Use the ASIAIR app to control a compatible rig and save captures to the internal eMMC storage.
Check the guide sensor against your image circle
ZWO specifies APS-C coverage or larger. With an APS-C image circle, guide stars can be distorted near the edge. Full-frame coverage gives the offset guide sensor more room. Account for any reducer or filter that changes the usable field.

What the Air needs from the rest of the rig
Main sensor and guide sensor performance

Full well
The charge a pixel can hold before saturation. The colour imaging sensor starts at about 40,000 electrons in the plotted mode.

Conversion gain
The electrons represented by one digital count. The conversion factor falls with gain, most quickly at the lower settings.

Dynamic range
The span between the noise floor and saturation. The curve recovers around gain 200 and then declines as gain rises.

Read noise
Noise introduced when the sensor is read. Read noise steps down at the high conversion gain marker around 200.

Relative spectral response
The red, green and blue main-sensor traces are relative to their peak response. All three decline towards 1000 nm.

Guide-sensor quantum efficiency
The separate SC2210 guide sensor peaks around 500 nm at roughly 92%, then responds less strongly at longer wavelengths.
