The DWARFLAB DRACO brings a 90 mm telescope, cooled camera, guiding and motorised tracking together in a 5.5 kg body. Choose a target in the app and watch your image build as the telescope captures and stacks the light.

It suits newcomers who want an automated start and experienced imagers who want manual controls and image-data export in a compact setup. Your phone or tablet is the viewing screen; DRACO is an imaging telescope without an eyepiece.

Maximum exposure is a capability, not a guarantee under every sky or tracking condition. Body weight excludes the tripod and packaging.

Capture the target and the wider sky together.

The 340 mm telephoto optical system folds into the body, giving DRACO its compact shape. Its f/3.8 focal ratio and aberration-corrected optics are designed for deep-sky imaging.

The telephoto camera uses a 1/1.3-inch, 50.33 MP sensor. In deep-sky mode, 2x2 binning combines four native pixels into a larger effective pixel, producing approximately 12 MP images. Solar System mode uses native pixel sampling and crops around the target.

A separate wide-angle camera can record at the same time. Its 85.74° diagonal view takes in the Milky Way, star trails and surrounding landscape while the telephoto camera concentrates on a smaller subject.

Four systems behind longer, cleaner captures.

Guiding, a precision transmission and fine microstepping work with physical sensor rotation to support exposures of up to 300 seconds. These systems handle different sources of movement and image degradation.

Built-in guiding

The guide scope monitors star drift and feeds corrections back to the drive. Guiding is part of the telescope, so there is no separate guide-camera setup.

Physical field rotation

The sensor turns to counter the sky’s changing orientation. You can also rotate the frame in the app for portrait, landscape or diagonal compositions.

Sensor cooling

Built-in cooling and heat dissipation reduce thermal noise during capture. DWARFLAB does not specify a cooling-temperature difference or regulated setpoint.

Automatic dew prevention

Heat recovered from the sensor warms the lens, helping keep it clear through cold or humid sessions.

Standard or SHO: choose the filter system for your imaging.

Both editions share the 90 mm optics, cooling, guiding and dual cameras. The choice is in the telephoto filter system.

The shared Astro filter passes a broader range of starlight for subjects such as galaxies and clusters. The Hα + O III filter isolates two emission bands to reduce unwanted background light when imaging nebulae. Its bands are centred at 658 nm and 503 nm, each with a nominal 13 nm width (±3 nm).

SHO adds the 674 nm S II band through a second S II + O III filter. DRACO can capture the two filter sets in sequence and combine the sulphur, hydrogen and oxygen data into a Hubble Palette image. This is separate from applying a colour effect to an existing image.

Solar imaging: use the correct solar filter and follow the approved in-app safety flow. Never point DRACO at the Sun outside that workflow. The SHO external ND filter must be fitted manually in advance.

Connect and choose a target

The iOS and Android app supports automatic connection and NFC pairing on compatible phones. Wide-angle Sky Finder helps you recognise the sky and spot obstructions. Use the real-time atlas, recommendations, favourites and target filters to plan your session.

Preview the framing

Check the composition in the simulated frame before capture. Rotate it in the app to suit the subject, with the physical sensor following the angle you choose.

Start with Auto, or set Pro controls

GoTo, autofocus, calibration, target acquisition, tracking and stacking are automated. Auto Mode adjusts settings for the target; Pro Mode gives you exposure, gain and filter control across the 1/10000 s to 300 s exposure range.

Let calibration run with capture

Built-in flat and bias data are combined with dark frames captured automatically in real time. Calibration is applied during live stacking to help correct thermal signal, uneven illumination and other fixed image artefacts.

Finish in Stellar Studio

Use auto enhancement, noise reduction and star correction, then adjust the stars with reduction, removal or extraction. Star-spike effects and watermarks provide finishing options; Hubble Palette effects are also available.

Multi-Night Mega Stacking takes the time dimension further. Combine data from several sessions, recombine captures made with different settings or filters, and review individual frames before restacking. Removing frames affected by cloud or other interference gives you more control over the finished image.

The included tripod weighs approximately 480 g and stands 175 mm high when deployed. Its fixed-length legs, aluminium platform and TPR feet provide a compact support. It folds to 80 x 80 x 268 mm.

Good to know

Use the solar workflow every time

Follow the approved in-app solar safety sequence with the correct ND filter in place. Standard selects its built-in ND through the app; SHO requires its external magnetic ND to be attached manually before solar imaging.

Equatorial mode is built in

The metal base and frame support EQ operation with app-guided angle adjustment. A separate equatorial mount is not required. Full-height tripods shown in manufacturer lifestyle images are separate from the included compact tripod.

Dark skies still matter

Brighter clusters and nebulae can be rewarding city targets, while faint galaxies and dust structures benefit from darker skies. Moonlight, cloud, target altitude, seeing, focus, stability, capture time and processing all affect the result.

Local Wi-Fi and remote access are different

DWARFLAB lists direct Wi-Fi operation up to 10 m. PhotonLink provides the remote-control route through a network connection. USB Ethernet is also supported, but a compatible Ethernet adapter is not included in the published contents list.

Outdoor protection has limits

The supplier dealer pack specifies IP56 protection, including dust resistance and brief rain exposure. This does not make the telescope submersible. Dew prevention helps the optics during a session; it does not remove the need to choose appropriate observing conditions.
