The Sky-Watcher Stargate 400P SynScan GoTo is a Newtonian telescope for visual astronomy. Its aperture suits lunar detail, planets, star clusters and deep-sky observing; darker skies make faint targets easier to see.
The parabolic primary mirror forms the image you view through an eyepiece. Sky conditions still set the detail you can resolve.
Magnification is telescope focal length divided by eyepiece focal length. Start at low power to find and centre a target, then increase it when the air is steady.
Align the telescope first, then select a target for the mount to locate and track.
The truss structure separates for transport and is assembled at the observing site. Plan the handling of the optical assembly and base before travelling; this is a large telescope, even when packed down.

The 2-inch dual-speed Crayford focuser provides coarse adjustment and finer control when bringing a target into focus.
Freedom Find dual encoders let you move the telescope manually while retaining its alignment.
Let the optics approach the outdoor temperature. Steady air and a dark observing location help you make the most of the aperture.
Allow space for assembly and clear access around the telescope. Check that you can safely move and store the large optical assembly and base.
Allow cooling time before judging fine detail. Check reflector collimation, particularly after transport or assembly.
Never point the telescope or finder at the Sun. Unfiltered sunlight can cause permanent eye damage.
Sky-Watcher covers defects in materials and workmanship for five years from purchase. The warranty is non-transferable and requires proof of purchase in Australia or New Zealand.
Damage caused by misuse, improper handling or installation, or unauthorised servicing is excluded. Follow the model instructions for routine alignment and maintenance, and consult the full warranty terms for exclusions.
