Celestron has reinvented the manual telescope with StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ —the first telescope that uses your smartphone to analyze the night sky and calculate its position in real time. StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ is ideal for beginners thanks to the app’s user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials. It’s like having your own personal tour guide of the night sky.
- Unleash the power of your smartphone to take you on a guided tour of the night sky—no telescope experience required.
- Patent-pending StarSense sky recognition technology uses your smartphone to analyze star patterns overhead and calculate its position in real time. Check phone compatibility here.
- StarSense Explorer app automatically generates a list of objects currently visible. View planets, brighter nebulae and galaxies, star clusters, and double stars from the city. Or take your telescope to darker skies to view faint, deep sky objects.
- Manual altazimuth mount with smooth, dual-axis slow-motion controls makes it easy to follow the on-screen arrows to your desired target. When the bullseye turns green, it’s ready to view in the telescope’s eyepiece.
- 80mm refractor with fully coated glass optics for bright, sharp views.
- Includes 25mm and 10mm eyepieces, 2x Barlow Lens, StarSense smartphone dock, erect image diagonal, a red dot finderscope (in case you want to use the telescope without your phone), and a full-height tripod.

Dock, Launch, Explore
Leave complicated star charts, imprecise planetarium apps, and computerized mounts behind. With StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ, locating objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes of setting up the telescope, you’ll be navigating the sky with confidence. Simply place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. After aligning your phone to the telescope’s optics (a quick, 2-minute procedure), StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible. Make your selection and arrows appear onscreen, guiding you as you to move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green.
Smartphone Compatibility
StarSense Explorer works with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and up and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016. For a complete compatibility list, click here.
Patent-Pending StarSense Sky Recognition Technology
StarSense Explorer uses patent-pending technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. A Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), like the ones satellites use in orbit to correctly reorient themselves, helps the app match star patterns it detects overhead to its internal database.
While other astronomy apps may claim that they can help you find objects, they rely exclusively on the phone’s gyros and accelerometers, which aren’t as accurate as LISA technology. No other app can accurately tell you when your target is visible in the eyepiece.
Sturdy Altazimuth Mount
StarSense Explorer LT’s simple altazimuth mount makes it easy to move the telescope to find your target. A slow-motion altitude adjustment knob helps you fine tune the telescope’s pointing position and follow targets as they appear to drift across the night sky. It’s all anchored by an adjustable, full-height tripod.
Dazzling Views with High Quality Optics
You can expect sharp, bright views through this 80mm refractor. Fully coated glass optics provide increased light transmission, enhancing details in celestial objects. The telescope also includes a 90-degree erect image diagonal, so you can use it during the day to view birds, wildlife, landscapes, and more.
Perfect for the City or Dark Sky Sites
Even if you live in a light polluted city location, StarSense Explorer is advanced enough to be able to pick out Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, double stars, and a few more of the most famous celestial objects.
But if you can take the telescope to an even slightly darker location, more objects will become visible. The entire telescope kit weighs just 9.2 pounds, so it’s perfectly portable and easy to bring on your next camping trip or to a remote observing site.
Everything You Need to Observe Immediately
When you unbox your new StarSense Explorer LT, you’ll find:
- 80mm refractor optical tube
- StarSense dock for your smartphone
- Low powered (25mm) and high powered (10mm) eyepiece
- 2x Barlow lens to double the power of each eyepiece
- 90-degree erect image diagonal
- StarPointer red dot finderscope, perfect for using the telescope during the day or without the StarSense Explorer app
- Altazimuth mount with slow motion control rod
- Full-height tripod with an accessory tray to keep you organized

- Miniature tripod perfect for using your telescope on an elevated surface such as a picnic table
- Provides a solid, sturdy base for your NexStar Evolution, NexStar SE, and Celestron Origin fork arm mount with telescope tube
- Features adjustment knobs and a bubble level to ensure the telescope is perfectly level even if the tabletop is not
- Three captured screws securely lock your mount and telescope to the tripod
Eliminate the need for your full-height tripod and enjoy grab-and-go convenience when you add the Tabletop Tripod to your NexStar Evolution, NexStar SE, or Celestron Origin telescope. This compact and sturdy accessory is half the size and weight of a standard tripod, making it perfect for travel. The low-profile legs and wide footprint offer added stability, while the convenient tabletop design makes it easier for some observers (especially children) to access the eyepiece.
Setup is quick and easy compared to a full-height tripod. Simply place the Tabletop Tripod on a camp table, bench, tailgate, or any other flat surface. With a footprint of just 17.5” x 16”, you can use it just about anywhere. Then, open and level the tripod legs, attach the mount and telescope, and you’re ready to go.
The Tabletop Tripod has adjustable knobs on each leg and a bubble leveler on the mount plate to ensure your setup is level before adding the telescope. Just like the NexStar SE, NexStar Evolution, and Celestron Origin’s standard tripod, the Tabletop Tripod has three captured screws on the underside of the mount plate so you can securely lock your mount and telescope in place.
When not in use, the Tabletop Tripod’s legs fold inward and stow neatly under the mount plate for easy storage and transport.

Take the guesswork out of using third-party heating bands or straps and increase your power efficiency with the Celestron Thermistor for Smart DewHeater Controllers. This accessory allows the Smart DewHeater Controller (sold separately) to deliver just the right amount warmth for to your telescope’s corrector to prevent dew without wasting battery. 6’ cable length accommodates a wide variety of configurations.
How it works
Connect the heating band to your telescope and place the Thermistor's sealed probe tip under the heating band. Plug each cable into its corresponding port of the Smart DewHeater Controller.
NOTE: This thermistor is not required if you are using a Celestron Dew Heater Ring because the ring already contains a built-in thermistor.
NOTE: Heating Band Not included.
Enhance your setup
We also recommend adding a dew shield to your setup. While not mandatory, a shield will cut down on the amount of power your dew heater needs to keep the optics clear.

With a set of Ultima Edge eyepieces in your kit, you'll be able to enjoy a wide range of high and low power views—and switch between them quickly and easily. That means you can get more out of every observing session.
NOTE: Ultima Edge 24mm is not a parfocal eyepiece. Ultima Edge eyepieces are only parfocal within the line and do not maintain focus when swapped with parfocal eyepieces from other brands or series.

Wind, an unsteady tripod, or even an accidental bump can disturb your image quality. Keep your telescope still while observing with these sturdy pads. Simply place your tripod legs on top of the pads to absorb shock and stabilize your telescope.
Celestron’s set of three Vibration Suppression Pads are manufactured using Sorbothane ® (available only in the USA) recognized worldwide as the ultimate material for attenuating shock, isolating vibration and damping noise. No synthetic rubber or polymer can dissipate energy as effectively.
- 3 vibration suppression pads go under your tripod legs to stabilize your telescope and prevent unwanted shaking
- Made with Sorbothane" only available in the USA. Cheap imitations use silicon which do not absorb shock and may melt in the Sun.
- Engineered by Celestron specifically to dampen vibrations
- Works on any surface

When inserted between the eyepiece and telescope, this X-Cel 2X Barlow lens doubles the magnification of all your 1.25” eyepieces. The premium apochromatic optics yield high contrast, sharp images, virtually free of false colour.
The black anodized housing with orange highlights matches the eyepieces in the Celestron X-Cel LX line. A centralised rubber grip helps to keep your hands securely on the barrel, even when your fingers are cold or you are wearing gloves. A brass compression ring just inside the top of the X-Cel Barlow grabs your eyepiece gently but firmly when you turn the thumbscrew. Once the thumbscrew has been secured in place, the brass ring keeps your eyepiece in the Barlow instead of relying on the tip of the thumbscrew itself, offering a better grip and protecting the barrel from scratches.
The barrel of the Celestron X-Cel LX 2x Barlow is threaded to accept 1.25” filters, allowing you to change eyepieces without removing and re-attaching the filter from each eyepiece barrel.

Celestron X-Cel LX series eyepieces offer a 60º apparent field of view, perfect for the Moon, the planets, and a plethora of deep-sky objects. The premium six-element optical set is finished with multiple layers of high-transmission coatings for clear, sharp images. The edges of the optics are blackened for increased contrast. All seven X-Cel LX eyepieces sport 16mm of comfortable eye relief, and are parfocal, which means you can switch out eyepieces within the series during observing sessions and little or no additional focusing will be required.
The X-Cel LX eyepiece body is made of black-anodized aluminum. The pop-up eyecups make it easy to adjust the height for different users. Turn them in one direction to extend the length, and the other direction to provide a flat surface, preferable to most eyeglass wearers. A threaded rubber grip around the center of the eyepiece barrel offers secure handling, even in moist conditions or with heavy gloves on. The 1.25” insert barrel is threaded to accept filters.

Chandler Large Planisphere
The most popular versions of The Night Sky™ planisphere are the large and small plastic charts. These versions are made in the USA using durable plastic facing for the front and back and are secured with no-corrosion brass rivets. These planispheres are built to last; you will probably go through several telescope upgrades in your lifetime but will never need to upgrade your planisphere.
How it Works:
The Night Sky Planisphere is made up of 2 sections -- an inner rotating dial (white) marked with the days and months of the year, and a fixed outer section (blue) marked with the hours of the day.
The dial contains a sky map printed with dark stars on a light background for easy nighttime readability. To use the planisphere simply turn the dial to match the date with the time you are looking at the night sky. The planisphere will then show the stars, constellations, and prominent deep-sky objects that are currently above the horizon as well as the location of the Milky Way. It works for any hour, of any day, of any year!
The Chandler Large Planisphere is unique because it uses a two-sided projection to reduce sky distortion -- conventional planispheres severely distort the sky near the southern horizon.
The Chandler Large Planisphere is made from a plastic laminate so it won't get damp and wrinkly when used outside in the night air.
- Unlike coffee-table planispheres, The Chandler Larger Planisphere is printed with dark stars on a light background, for easy nighttime readability.
- The constellations are drawn simply, emphasizing the brighter stars which makes them easy to recognize and locate with the naked eye or entry level equipment.
- Coordinate grid lines are shown without being intrusive. Coordinates are shown because they can be useful for cross referencing with star atlases.
- A selection of deep sky objects for binocular viewing is included. It is important to point out to beginners that the best first telescope is a pair of binoculars. You may already have what it takes to start observing tonight!
Suitable for use in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina & Chile.
