The Paramount ME II Dec Axis to Versa-Plate Spacer is mounted between the top of the Paramount ME II declination axis and the bottom of the Versa-Plate.
When the Versa-Plate is in the standard orientation (see the Paramount User Guide for details about Versa-Plate attachment options):
- A recessed channel in the top of the Dec axis provides sufficient space to route the standard through-the-mount cabling to the Instrument Panel that is attached to the Versa-Plate.
- This spacer can be used to separate the top of the Dec axis from the bottom of the Versa-Plate to make room for routing custom through-the-mount cables to the telescope.
This unit is included in the Multi OTA Mounting Kit

Introducing the new Paramount MX Series 6 transportable observatory.
The Paramount MX Series 6 represents the latest in gear-driven GEM performance.
Its new features include a 25% instrument capacity increase, an option for absolute digital encoders, and multiple connectivity options.
The MX German equatorial mount has always been a popular Paramount model and the new Paramount MX Series 6 offers several important improvements.
On-axis Absolute Encoders vs. Motor-based Encoders.
Paramount's equipped with on-axis absolute encoders know where they are at all times. Paramount's with incremental encoders (or motor-based encoders) know only how far they have moved since they were initialized using a nightly process called homing.
The crucial additional difference is that the on-axis absolute encoders are fitted directly to the mount axes themselves, bypassing the worm drives. Paramount's with incremental encoders are fitted to the worms instead, which means that with incremental encoders alone, periodic errors in the worm drive show up in the tracking. These mounts must be calibrated and corrected using a process called periodic error correction (PEC), which measures and records the repeatable gear train errors and removes them. (TheSky features advanced, multi-harmonic PE detection and PEC calibration that minimizes periodic error in mounts with incremental encoders.)
For mounts with incremental encoders, homing re-zeros the encoders when precise sensors on each of the axes are reached. From then on, the incremental encoders are in effect delivering absolute readings.
However, the crucial additional difference remains, namely that the incremental encoder system is behind the worm drive, and periodic error correction is still required to get the best out of the RA tracking.
High-resolution on-axis absolute encoder technology is significantly more expensive than incremental encoders.
Are on-axis absolute encoders right for me ?
The short answer is, “it depends.”
Gear-driven Paramounts equipped with on-axis absolute encoders do not have periodic error, require no mechanical initialization (or homing), and the number of TPoint pointing samples needed for precision calibration is reduced.
These advantages expedite nightly setup, negate one-time periodic error training, and shorten the calibration process require to achieve spectacular pointing and tracking performance. However, the Paramount worm gear's uncorrected periodic error is low (below 7 arc seconds peak to peak), and, after a one-time PE training, periodic error correction (PEC) generally make it negligible. The Paramount without on-axis absolute encoders requires a nightly Find Home process that usually takes a minute or less to complete.
So, at least with Paramounts, periodic error is effectively in the noise, and homing straightforward.
What about pointing and tracking?
Without on-axis absolute encoders, Paramounts routinely produce 5-to-10-minute unguided exposures; many have reported 20 minutes. Also without on-axis absolute encoders, Paramount’s produce all-sky pointing accuracies at or below 30 arcseconds RMS (usually less than 15 arcseconds on fixed mirror telescopes).
Paramount’s exceptional software makes the above performance possible. TheSky Professional edition, in conjunction with TPoint™ and ProTrack™ the mount’s position is continually updated in both axes to correct system-wide pointing and tracking errors caused by tube flexure, atmospheric refraction, polar misalignment, harmonic errors from mis-centered encoders and/or worm gears, and more.
On-axis absolute encoders alone cannot correct these errors which exist with all telescopes. A properly applied telescope model is necessary to achieve superior pointing and tracking.
So are on-axis absolute encoders right for you? Perhaps if you want to enjoy the conveniences mentioned above. And for many, that’s enough. With that said, the optional on-axis 26-bit Renishaw absolute encoders with 0.02 arc second precision are the finest available and they operate in temperatures between +80°C and –40°C.

Lack of a trusty USB3.1 Hub in astrophotography market, triggered us to develop the Pegasus Astro USB Control Hub which will be also able to switch ON/OFF each USB port.
We proudly present the Pegasus Astro USB Control Hub (in short UCH):
A SuperSpeed (SS), low power, switchable USB3.1 Gen1 hub and fully compliant with USB-IF’s USB 3.1 Gen1 specification . The Hub supports Hi-Speed (HS), Full Speed (FS) and Low Speed (LS). The new SuperSpeed hubs operate in parallel with the USB 2.0 controller, so 5 Gbps SuperSpeed data transfers are not affected by slower USB 2.0 traffic.
6 x USB3.1 Active Ports
USB Control Hub uch_3-2
The device has 6 x USB 3.1 Ports. All ports are backward compatible with USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 devices.
Each port can deliver up to 2.5Amps of current. There is a smart current limit sensor in every port which automatically limits or cuts power in case of a short-wire or power consumption that is above 2.5Amps.
Each port is monitored by the USB Controller and in case of a current limit, it triggers a warning pop up in the operating system.
Industrial grade temperature support
Most USB Hubs in the market (well…nearly all of them) operate under room temperatures as they were design to work inside your cosy warm room. This is one of the reasons why you experience USB disconnects and instability during a cold night.
Our product is certified to work flawlessly from −40°C to +85°C. All USB Hub electronics has been selected to support Industrial grade temperature ranges.
Aluminium Enclosure
A high quality robust, blue anodised aluminium enclosure houses the electronics of the USB Hub. The metal enclosure designed and tested to survive ±5kV ESD strikes
Switchable USB Ports
Each USB port can be controlled and switched ON/OFF by our standalone software. (power + data). You are going to love this feature. No more pull out and re-plug USB cables of your equipment.
12V DC Operation
The 12V DC operation was our first design requirement. As most of your astro-equipment requires 12V DC why to use something different? Hub accepts 12-14V of operation. This means that you can plug unregulated 12V power from a battery.

Effortless Close-Range Observation
The Papilio series features the PENTAX-developed Convergent Lens Optical System Engineering mechanism, which automatically slides the left and right objective lenses toward the center when the focus is fixed at a short distance. As a result, the right and left image fields are correctly aligned to facilitate close-range viewing. Thanks to its go-anywhere portability, this new series is also ideal for conventional binocular subjects, including spectator sports, travel and hiking.
-
Extra-Short Minimum Focusing Distance
The Papilio series offers a minimum focusing distance of just 50 centimeters (approx. 1.6 feet), considerably shorter than the two-meter distance (approx. 6.5 feet) offered by similar PENTAX models currently on the market.
-
Outstanding Optical Performance
The Papilio series features multi-coated optical elements to minimize unwanted light reflections for a well-defined subject image. The combination of aspherical optical elements and high-refraction BaK4 glass prisms assures a sharp, clear image with minimal distortion, even at the edges.
-
Long Eye Relief
The Papilio series offers a long 15-millimeter eye relief to assure effortless viewing of the entire image field, even for eyeglass wearers.
-
Protective Rubber Housing
The protective rubber housing not only protects inner mechanism from external shock, but also assures a firm, comfortable grip of the binocular body even in the field.
PENTAX-original dual-axis eye-distance adjustment mechanism for quick, effortless eye-distance control
Extendable helicoid-type eyepiece rings with a single-action pop-up/storage mechanism

We've been amazed at what our BINTEL customers have been using these unique Pentax Papilio binoculars for. Perfect for everything from nature watching and bird observing, through to taking to museums for close up views of exhibitions, checking out electronic circuitry or even examining the fine details on medieval manuscripts.
Highlights
- Close-distance observation from a minimum focusing distance of approximately 50 centimeters
- The first Papilio-series model to feature a weather-resistant construction
- High-performance optical design
- Latest HD Coating to further upgrade optical performance
- Long eye relief
- Easy-to-hold rubber casing
In general, observing an object from a close distance with a pair of binoculars causes a discrepancy in the visual field between the right and left eyes. In order to compensate for this discrepancy, the Papilio III WR incorporates the PENTAX-original convergence correction mechanism, which slides the objective lenses in conjunction with the focusing distance. This unique mechanism lets the user more comfortably observe subjects at close range without suffering eye fatigue.
Since the objective lenses returns to their original position in long-range observation, this model also performs superbly in normal applications, such as birdwatching, hiking, concerts and sports viewing.
The first Papilio-series model to feature a weather-resistant construction
For the first time in the Papilio series, the Papilio III WR features a weather-resistant construction which minimizes the intrusion of water and moisture into the interior, making it a highly dependable observation tool in the rain and mist and at locations prone to water splashes. An anti-stain coating has also been applied to the eyepieces and front plate-glass surfaces to minimize the adhesion of dust and stains.
Latest HD Coating to further upgrade optical performance
The newest high-performance HD Coating* has been applied to some of the optical elements already treated with full multi-coating. Compared with conventional multi-coatings, this assures higher transmittance with less reflection. The result is that the Papilio III WR delivers extra-clear, higher-contrast images even under such demanding conditions as backlighting.
High-performance optical design
All optical elements of the Papilio III WR are treated with a full multi-coating process to assure the optimum imaging performance, while minimizing unwanted reflections. The combination of the aspherical optical elements and the high-refraction BaK4 index glass prisms also delivers a sharp, clear subject image without distortion, even at the edges of the image field.
Easy-to-hold rubber casing
The entire binocular body is encased in a protective rubber casing to assure better holding comfort and superior impact resistance.
Long eye relief
This model’s long 15mm eye relief allows even eyeglass-wearers to clearly and comfortably observe the entire field of vision.
Other Features
- RICOH-original dual-axis eye-space adjustment mechanism for simple, effortless adjustment of the width between the eyepieces
- Helicoid-type eyepiece rings for single-action, push-and-pull adjustment of eyepiece positions
- Click-stop diopter adjustment mechanism to prevent accidental shift of the diopter settings
- Quick-action neck strap, with instant attachment and release operations
