The telescope side of the Pyxis LE is a simple two-inch "push-fit" barrel. The long barrel adapter, just short of 2-1/2 inches, is easily inserted into any 2" focuser such as the Optec TCF-S Temperature Compensating Focuser. Combined with the TCF-S or TCF-Si, the Pyxis LE creates a focuser/rotator combination requiring less than 4-1/2 inches of back-focus.
The camera side of the Pyxis LE is a standard male T-thread. Any T-thread camera, filter wheel, off-axis guider, or industry standard T2 ring can screw directly on to the exit port of the Pyxis LE - no other adapters are required. All of the users existing accessories - T-thread spacers, off-axis guiders, filter wheels, etc. - can be attached directly. With the Pyxis LE, the confusion typically surrounding adapters is eliminated since the Pyxis LE is ready to use out-of-the-box. Simply attach your camera, slip into a 2-inch focuser, and you're ready to go.
The Pyxis LE is ideally suited for small, well-balanced cameras such as the QSI, Fish Camp, Starlight Xpress or SBIG ST-series CCD cameras. Canon and Nikon DLSR cameras will attach directly using an optional T2 bayonet ring. Optional T-thread extender rings can be added in 7.5 and 15mm lengths for additional offset to avoid filter wheel stepper motors such as with the SBIG CFW9.

The ZWO ASI533MM PRO adopts a Sony back-illuminated IMX533 sensor, which is a 1-inch square frame sensor made suitable for deep sky astrophotography needs. The ZWO ASI533MM Pro can be regarded as an upgrade of the ASI183 series. Not only does it retain the high-quality features of the ASI183, such as high QE and frame rate, but it also features: no amp glow, readout noise as low as 1.0e, pixel size of 3.76 μm, 3008 x3008 array (11.31mm x 11.31mm) array and a 2-stage TEC cooling. It is highly recommended for beginners of deep sky astrophotography.
1-inch Square Frame
The IMX533 is a 1-inch square frame CMOS image sensor with approximately 9M effective pixels at a pixel size of 3.76 μm. The 14-bit digital output of IMX533 makes it possible to read out signals of 9m effective pixels at a high speed of 20 frames per second with read noise as low as 1.0e, the performance of which is on par with those of SCMOS or EMCCD sensors. This sensor is suitable for image needs that require high definition and low noise.
Full Upgrade
The ZWO ASI533MM Pro is considered a full upgrade version of the ASI183 series.

Quantum Efficiency
Based on ZWO’s calculation, the peak quantum efficiency of ASI533MM Pro is greater than 91%.
Zero Amp Glow
Traditional CMOS sensors can generate weak infrared light, which is equivalent to a light source during exposures. The ASI533MM Pro uses a no-glow circuitry to ensure best quality images regardless of gain or exposure length.
2 Stage TEC Cooling
The 2-stage thermoelectric can cool the CMOS sensor to 35 degrees below the ambient temperature (based on a 30 degree ambient temperature test results). Greatly reducing dark current and thereby improving the signal to noise ratio, even with a long expose of hundreds of seconds. Note: the lower the ambient temperature is, the smaller the Delta T is.
Dark Current
ASI533MM Pro is equipped with a USB 3.0 transmission interface. In 14-bit ADC mode, the output frame rate can reach 20 frames per second. Additionally, the 256M DDR3 memory ensures a more stable data transmission during long exposure without frame loss, and can also relax the hardware requirements of the computer used for data capture.

The ULTRAVID 8X20 are brighter, sharper, more compact, more functional and robust than previous binoculars of this lens size.
There is no question that these compacts are true Ultravid-class. Almost all the Ultravid-elements that the developers could miniaturize found there way into these "mini-binoculars" which fit comfortably into almost any pocket.
The use of aspherical lenses offers the observer a sharp image right to the edge without color fringing and because of the short close-up distance these little Ultravids bring close up things even closer.
The 25mm and 20mm BR binoculars live up to the name "Ultravid" in the case robustness too: because a new developed vulcanization method ensures that the rubber armoring is inseparable from the metal housing even in the harshest conditions. Their robustness is further evidenced by being guaranteed watertight up to 5 m (16.5ft)and nitrogen filled to prevent fogging. They also come with high quality accessories.
The ULTRAVID 8X20 BR series come in shock-absorbing black rubber coating but also available is the Ultravid BL series in a noble black leather. This leather design gives the binoculars a classic elegance and guarantees a long life.
Includes a woven carrying strap, eyepiece cover, Cordura case with belt loop.

DESCRIPTION
The EQ8-R provides the next generation of Sky-Watcher’s popular high-capacity mount, the EQ8.
The R models offer a refined design to allow for better balance and more modern features to cater to today’s high-end imagers.
Built-in cable management
-
-
- USB 3.0 USB hub (4 ports)
- 2.1mm Power port (3 ports)
- 3 serial ports on the back of the saddle
- The EQ8-R features built-in cable management. This removes cable drag from hanging cables and reduces the risk of cables getting caught during imaging session. This capability also improves the mounts capabilities for remote use.
-
The built-in USB 3.0 hub allows you to simply plug in your camera, guider, filter wheel and other USB accessories into the hub below the saddle plate and connect them using a single USB cable plugged into the rear of the mount. No more tangled mess of cabled hanging or need for multiple cables running around the mount.
Another addition to the cable management system is the three built-in 2.1mm ports situated next to the USB hub. This allows your accessories to also be powered through the mount. This reduces the need for multiple power adapters and other accessories. The ports can be run off of a single power source providing a cleaner set up and less cables.
On the gear of the saddle are three serial ports for various accessories such as ST4 guide cables and other serial-based accessories. Like the rest of the cable management this reduces the hanging cables and provide a neat connection to the mount.
Motor Positioning
EQ8-R feature improved balance from their predecessor with redeposited motor housings. This improves the mount’s balance overall.
Belt Drive
Both mounts feature belt drive on both the RA and Dec axis. This allows for smoother guiding and reduced backlash.
Auto-Home
EQ8-R feature built-in homing sensors. This allows the mount to know its positioning more accurately from its start positioning.
Improved Clutches
The EQ8-R models feature improved clutches allowing for sturdier lock under heavy loads. Simply use the large levers to engage or disengage the axis of choice. The clutch lever are larger than the original EQ8 making it easier to adjust with gloves.
PC Direct Connect
EQ8-R also feature the new PC direct connect feature. Now you can easily connect your mount to your computer without the need of a hand controller. When paired with the SynScan Pro app. for Windows the mount can be aligned and controlled direct from a PC. This makes imaging refined and easier, especially for those with permanent set ups.

Step up to to the Sky-Watcher 10" Dobsonian for extra light gathering and sharper observing!
- Most Practical f/5 Telescope
- Outstanding Light Gathering Ability
- Super-smooth Azimuth Movement
- Tension Control System
- 2″ Focuser with a 1.25″ Adaptor
- 5 Years Sky-Watcher Limited Warranty
The Ultimate Light Gatherers
The Dobsonian telescopes are named after John Dobson, an amateur astronomer who designed a very simple but effective telescope, where the key factor is a large aperture for little money. His idea was to mount a Newton telescope on an easy-to-use alt-azimuth mount that does not need time-consuming alignments.
The Sky-Watcher 10″ Dobsonian is a large aperture Newtonian reflector telescope with f/5 focal ratio, make it ideal for wide field and deep-sky observation. Big aperture means better light gathering power and with this Sky-Watcher Telescope you are able to see prominent deep-sky object such as nebulae, star cluster and many more. It's also an excellent telescope for viewing planets such as Jupiter, Saturn and its rings and more.
To top it off, the Sky-Watcher Classic 250P Dobsonian is equipped with a 2″ Crayford focuser and focuser locking screw to allow easy use of either eyepiece size.
Tension Control System
The Tension Control System allows you to adjust the friction setting; to increase or reduce the amount of resistance when moving the tube on the wooden mount, so you always have the appropriate resistance. The secret of the design is to correctly balance the optical tube with the specially designed handles (found on the base) and this adds enough friction and tension to allow the tube to move easily when nudged or to stay solidly in position.

Tele Vue Eyeguard Extender, Twist-on Style
Eyeguard Extender raises the eyeguard position by 8mm, and includes a rubber eyeguard and eyepiece cap (in case yours is lost or damaged.) Units are stackable: for example 2 units add 16mm height and make a 40mm Plössl very comfortable for solar viewing by blocking out stray daylight to maximize contrast in white light or hydrogen-alpha viewing.
Eyeguard extender is black anodized aluminum with anti-reflection threads.
The Eyeguard Extender attaches to the top of your eyepiece with the simplicity of a DIOPTRX™ corrector. It has two rings that thread together to clamp on the eyepiece: an inner-ring that holds the rubber eyeguard and outer ring that slips over the top of the eyepiece. Starting with the inner-ring backed off from fully tight, take off your existing rubber eyeguard, place the Eyeguard Extender in its place, screw-down the inner ring until the Eyeguard does not slip off.

Introduced at the 2007 Northeast Astronomy Forum, Tele Vue once again broadened the amateur astronomer's perspective on the universe with: 100° of pure Tele Vue quality. The field area of this new eyepiece is more than 50% larger than an 82° field. The Tele Vue Ethos is essentially multiple eyepieces, delivering the true field size of a longer focal length, narrower apparent field eyepiece with the benefits of higher power and darker sky background.
We invited NEAF attendees to take a look and see the universe the way we think it was meant to be experienced, with a field of view incredibly wide and sharp! We were very pleased indeed by the response and validation of our design goals.

Reviews
Excerpt from Living Bird article by Dr. KenRosenberg, director of conservation science at Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology.
TeleVue has introduced a new 60mm scope for birders, which includes the 45-degree prism, and when fitted with the same 8-24mm zoom provides powers from 15-45x. This scope is comparable in size, weight, and image quality to the best Swarovski or Kowa spotting scopes and may cost considerably less, ...

Excerpts from Dennis di Cicco review of the TV-60 in Sky & Telescope, December 2004
Even at 120x, brilliant Vega, one of the most challenging stars for a refractor to image cleanly, appears as a blue-white Airy disk surrounded by several white diffraction rings and no perceptible color halo.

Read what SmartMoney has to say about the TV-60
SmartMoney magazine, The Wall Street Journal Magazine of Personal Business, is all about recommending the wisest buys for their readers. The 'Smart Spending' section of the November, 2004, issue features the article Stargazing; "Today's telescopes are so high-tech they seek out stars themselves. But we wondered: What would the world's top amateur astronomer think of them?" In this context, the Tele Vue-60 was chosen the winner by David Levy after checking out four other scopes and the Tele Vue-60.The article concludes: "Our winner gave us the best view of Jupiter, and without any gizmos. 'This is a sweet instrument,' Levy says."

Excerpts from Raymond Shubinski's review of the TV-60 in Astronomy magazine
A note of caution: You may find yourself spending more time looking through the Tele Vue-60 than through your larger scope.

Excerpts from Randy Roy's comments on Cloudy Nights Telescope Reviews website.
If you want wide field, pristine, color free views throughout a wide range of magnification -- if you want a scope that is a superfinder, a guidescope, a piggyback refractor, or an ultra-light travel scope -- and if you demand the best in fit, finish and build quality -- buy this. I've not seen anything else in its class that does so much.
— Roy, R. "Televue-60 APO". Cloudy Nights Telescope Reviews (Feb. 4, 2004).
Excerpts from TV-60 review by Ed Ting, published on The Telescope Review Web Site
- TeleVue's newest telescope is a cute little 60mm f/6 apo. In a departure from their usual styling, the TV60 has a sleek, tapered black body that resembles a spotting scope. .... The construction is heavy-duty and very serious. There's a sliding bar on the bottom that's very similar to the one on the Ranger. Like the Ranger, it has a helical focuser and drawtube assembly. Unlike the Ranger, the TV60 adds a nice sliding dew shield.
- The scope has impressive optics. .... No false color was noted. At only 15X (with a 24 mm Panoptic) Titan could be seen as a tiny pinpoint dot next to the planet. You can see Cassini's Division on Saturn at 70x (with a 5 mm Type 6 Nagler.) .... The Trapezium was easily resolved, .... Castor is an easy split. Most impressively, the scope split Rigel, again at 70X. On deep sky, you have to make some allowances for the small aperture. M35 is just starting to resolve, but the other nearby clusters (M37, M36, M38) look like similar faint smudges in the eyepiece. Not exciting, but again, we're only talking about a 60 mm telescope here.
- I once heard small scopes like this described as "One-Hour Telescopes." You get to see pretty much everything you want to see in about an hour. As such, the TV60 is a great quick peek or travel scope.
- Update, 2/7/04: TeleVue informs me that they plan to offer an X-Y heavy duty version of their Starbeam mount, so that the TV60 can be mounted on a larger scope.
— Ting, E. "Tele Vue-60". The Telescope Review Web Site (Feb. 1, 2004).
Work smarter, not harder, when it comes to combating dew. The Smart DewHeater and Power Controller 4X prolongs your battery life by optimizing power usage for up to four dew heaters. The controller gathers and analyzes information in real time to warm your optics just enough to prevent dew.
The Smart DewHeater and Controller comes with four ports to control four dew heaters at once. You can use one port to heat your optical tube while the others warm a second optical tube, a guide scope, an eyepiece, or another accessory. The controller is also a complete power management solution for your telescope. It offers four 12V DC output ports to power a variety of 12V DC devices, such as your mount, focus motor, and camera. One of the ports has variable voltage, which you can adjust from 3V to 12V. In addition, the controller features three powered USB ports.
The Smart DewHeater and Controller works seamlessly with Celestron’s Dew Heater Rings, which have a built-in thermistor to provide temperature readings of the corrector lens. Third-party dew heater bands or straps are also compatible; you simply need to add Celestron's Thermistor for Smart DewHeater and Controllers (sold separately).
Smart Controls
At the heart of the controller is a powerful microprocessor that gathers information from the sensors, computes the data, and automatically adjusts your dew heaters. The controller monitors the ambient temperature and humidity using its integrated environmental sensor and monitors the heaters’ temperatures using thermistors.
You can run the Smart DewHeater and Power Controller 4X as a standalone accessory. Or, if you want to view data from the controller and make manual adjustments, you can connect it to your Celestron telescope’s hand control or your PC. The controller works with NexStar+ or StarSense hand controls running the latest firmware or Celestron CPWI telescope control software, included with every Celestron mount.
Power
The Smart DewHeater and Power Controller 4X runs on a 12V DC battery (like our PowerTank Lithium Pro or PowerTank 17) and can handle a maximum power of 240W (20A max current @ 12V DC).
The controller also features four 12V DC output ports so you can power your entire setup from a single source. You can use the additional ports to power devices like your mount, focus motor, and camera(s). One of the power ports offers variable voltage, which adjusts from 3V to 12V. This port is perfect for accessories that use less than 12V DC, such as a DSLR camera.
Once they’re connected, you can control the power to each device individually with the hand control or CPWI software. Power down your connected devices without unplugging them from the controller. All your devices are protected by resettable electronic fuses if current draw becomes too high.
NOTE: If you are using several dew heaters in heavy dew conditions and powering external 12V DC devices, one PowerTank Lithium Pro or PowerTank 17Ah will not have enough capacity to run your setup all night; you'll need a larger capacity battery or multiple batteries.
USB 3.2 Hub
The integrated USB 3.2 hub connects three USB devices to your computer with only one cable, greatly simplifying cable management. There are three USB Type A ports, and each port is powered. Just like the 12V DC ports, you can power each USB port on or off using CPWI or a Celestron hand control.
Unique Industrial Design
The Smart DewHeater and Power Controller 4X features a heavy-duty metal housing. Inside, a cooling fan protects the controller’s electronics.
The Bridge – On top of the controller, you will find the bridge, which is home to the device’s status LEDs and environmental sensors. The bridge also helps with cable management. We have positioned the temperature and humidity sensors here, away from the control box and other components that could generate heat. Unlike competitor products, our sensors do not require additional cables to obtain accurate readings.
The LED lights on the bridge indicate the device’s current status. The LEDs provide warnings if the controller is drawing more current than your power source can supply or if the battery charge needs recharging. You can dim the lights if you are under dark skies.
Mounting – The Celestron Smart DewHeater and Power Controller 4X mounts on your CGE or CG-5 dovetail with the integrated dovetail clamps. If you prefer to mount the controller on your tripod leg, use the included strap.
Smart DewHeater and Power Controller 4X comes complete with:
- Smart DewHeater and Power Controller 4X
- Tripod leg strap
- Controller power cable
- Power cable for external 12V DC device
- AUX cable for connecting to Celestron mounts
- Thermistor extension cable to attach to Celestron’s Dew Heater Ring
Enhance your setup
We highly recommend pairing this controller with Celestron Dew Heater Rings. They fit seamlessly on your Schmidt corrector lens and will improve your observing or imaging year-round.
For the highest level of dew prevention, we also suggest adding a dew shield to your setup. While not required, a dew shield will cut down on the amount of power the controller needs to provide to the dew heater rings to keep your optics clear.

Up close & sharp – Samyang 135mm F2.0!
The Samyang 135mm F2.0 ED UMC II Sony Full Frame Camera Lens is a manual focus telephoto lens for full frame sensor sizes. It expresses vibrant colour and soft out-focusing area which makes it the best lens to shoot portrait, night scenery, wild-life and journalism photography.
This lens has a low F number of F2.0. You may control the lens precisely when shooting under various exposure environment including relatively dark or too bright situations.
This lens features 11 lenses in 7 groups especially including extra low dispersion lens (ED) to offer high resolution throughout the image. Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) of Samyang Optics is used to optimise the light penetration and minimises flare and ghost. With such optical construction, it has 0.8m of minimum focal length to film subjects in near distance. Also, the floating type design secures as much light as possible and maximises the resolution by minimising spherical aberration and distortion.
There are 9 aperture blades designed to be almost as a full circle when aperture is closed which expresses starlike ray clearly and beautifully. The frame of the lens is compact and solid since it is made of high-strength aluminium alloy so you can create trustworthy images. The detachable petal-shaped lens hood minimises flare and ghost by sheltering lens from unnecessary light.

Swarovski STS 65 HD w/20x-60x
It is at moments like these that you find out whether you are properly equipped. Wherever you are with Swarovski Optik, the natural world becomes ever more amazing. The Swarovski STS 65 HD observation telescope sets the highest standards among telescopes in this category. The STS 65 HD is more compact and lighter than scopes in the 80mm class, providing better portability in the field.
The use of fluorite HD lenses virtually eliminates colour fringing (chromatic aberration) for contrast-rich images. As a result, significant improvements in resolution and contrast are achieved when compared to conventional grades of glass. This is the best option for perfect image fidelity when digiscoping or for demanding visual observations.
The 20-60x eyepiece provides variable magnification and achieves luminous, diamond-bright images with edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire magnification range. This configuration is very good for all birding situations – it enables both scanning of the terrain and bird identification in razor-sharp detail. It is the most popular option for general nature observation.
Note: If you intend to use your scope for digiscoping, the Swarovski STS 65 HD with 25-50x wide eyepiece is preferable. This eyepiece provides a wide apparent field of view and minimizes vignetting when used for digiscoping.
The non-stick effect of the SWAROCLEAN coating on the outer surface of the lens makes cleaning objective and eyepiece lenses considerably easier, above all when removing dried-on mineral residues (e.g. water marks due to condensation), insect repellents and tree resin. The lenses require less intensive cleaning which significantly increases the longevity of optical products.

saxon Plossl eyepieces can be used on all types of telescopes - refractors, reflector, and catadioptrics such as Celestron SCT telescopes.
Featuring a 4-element design, this Plossl eyepiece ensures maximum light transition, minimises spherical aberration, distortion, astigmatism, and off-axis colour. The edge-to-edge blackened optics provide excellent contrast across the 52° apparent field of view.
This 32mm size will offer a lower magnification than the 25mm size provided as standard with most telescopes. It's a handy way to obtain a wider field of view for large deep-sky objects including many nebulae and star clusters.
The oversized optical elements provide long eye relief while stray light is eliminated by the fold back rubber eyecups.
Heading out boating? Like to check out birds near the water or go whale watching from the shoreline? Or maybe even venturing into the great outdoors when conditions are less than ideal?

The PoleMaster is an easy, convenient and fast way to achieve excellent polar alignment. It has been recognized by astronomy enthusiasts around the world and has become a must-have for anyone using an equatorial mount for visual use or for imaging. The PoleMaster electronic polar axis alignment device is a patented product of QHYCCD and is protected by Chinese, US patents and International PCT.
As any seasoned astronomer would agree, achieving good polar alignment is not an easy task. You may spend hours under precious dark sky trying to get that perfect polar alignment, but in the end you may not know whether good alignment has in fact been achieved. Even after you have obtained good alignment, a gentle knock on the mount may send the polar alignment off and you may have no other choice but to start from scratch again. With an hour here and an hour there trying to get polar aligned, it soon will be dawn and time to pack up the gear.
The PoleMaster is a great solution to this problem. The PoleMaster is an innovative product pioneered by QHYCCD to relieve the pain of polar alignment. Using PoleMaster and following a few simple, easy-to-follow, steps you can achieve perfect polar alignment in 2-3 minutes, with an accuracy of up to 30 arc seconds.
With PoleMaster, You don’t need to rotate the telescope to some uncomfortable position to keep the optical polar axis of the equatorial mount unobstructed. Also, you don’t need to squat down to look through the polar axis scope. You don’t need to turn off all the light sources to allow the naked eye to adapt to the darkness and look for the Polaris in the field of view. You also don’t need to enter the date and time and then rotate the equatorial mount to a strange angle, finally you don’t need to adjust the equatorial level. With the PoleMaster you can observe the alignment of the polar axis at any time, as well as continuously monitor the polar axis. When the equatorial mount moves inadvertently, you can also tune it back without having to redo everything.
The PoleMaster’s pixel resolution is approximately 30 arc seconds. The camera’s pixel matrix itself is a good ruler, so the accuracy it measures is much higher than the accuracy of the macroscopic lens. In the best case it can achieve an alignment accuracy of 30 arc seconds.
Wide Field of View: The electronic polar mirror has a large field of view of 11 degrees x 8 degrees, so it is easy to find the Polaris.
Once you have calibrated with a PoleMaster, you only need to perform a single-star sync (one-star calibration). This greatly facilitates the setup of an equatorial mount.
With a suitable adapter ring, the PoleMaster can be mounted to any equatorial mount. Even single-axis equatorial mounts that have no ability to correct in declination will benefit because with the PoleMaster, after the polar axis is aligned, the amount of drift in the declination direction will be very small, which can further improve the performance of such an equatorial mount.

Astronomik now offers you a range of three different UV+IR blockers as Luminance filters. The different spectral window of each new Luminance filters is designed to tune your setup to get the sharpest image from any optical design and any camera.
The Luminance channel is probably the most important for a great final image! You want as much signal as possible so the filter should have the highest transmission possible with a wide spectral bandpass. This combination provides the greatest sensitivity and gives you the highest photon counts on your pixels. While the high transmission level is a great aspect of the new Astronomik Luminance filters, not all optical instruments or additional optical elements like correctors, field-flatteners or reducers, have perfect colour correction so it can be the width of the spectral band pass of the Luminance filter that can cause problems. A band pass that is too wide will allow the transmission of incompletely focused light (Chromatic aberration), making stars appear soft or bloated. In such cases image processing can become difficult, so having a slightly narrowed spectral window in your Luminance filter can reduce or eliminate this damaging effect.
To give you all the tools to gather the best data possible we have expanded our line of Luminance filters: Now you can select a Luminance filter perfectly matched to the kind of telescope you use, to get the highest signal and sharpest image for the Luminance channel!
Depending on the color correction of your scope you may use a wider spectral window for the Luminance data. The L1 filter has the widest spectral window, the L2 is about the same as our current L-Filter and the L3 is much narrower.
If you use an optical system that is completely free of any chromatic aberration you should get an L1 filter for your setup. For general use the L2 filter is well suited to most optical systems with a corrector, flattener or reducer in the optical train while the L3 filter is designed for users of refractors with a less-than-perfect color correction and in combination with the new Deep-Sky RGB filters, the L3 filter will minimise the problem of bluish halos around stars.
The transmission curve characteristics and coatings on the new Luminance filters have been designed and engineered in such a way that no halos or reflections will be visible. Even with bright stars in the field of view you will be able to reveal the faintest structures in nebulas or galaxies.
Like all Astronomik Filters, the new Luminance filters are made using an extremely durable and scratch resistant coating, deposited on the finest polished optical substrate, which is free of any striae or internal strains. All substrates are made to exactly the same thickness, so all of our filters are parfocal.
Additional note for observers working under light polluted skies:
If your observing site suffers from light pollution you should try to use our CLS-CCD as a replacement for the Luminance filter. The transmission curve of the CLS-CCD will give you approximately the same amount of energy in all three colour channels while blocking nearly all unwanted artifical light pollution. Customers who replaced the Lx filter with the CLS-CCD are amazed by the increased quality of their data. This small change gives you the opportunity to take much deeper images from your current observing site.

The Astronomik CLS CCD is suitable under light-polluted skies for DSLR Cameras, which have been remodeled for astronomical use. The filter enhances the contrast between all deep-sky objects and the background.
The CLS-CCD Filter enhances the contrast between astronomical objects and the background. Due to the wider transmission curve compared to UHC filters, a greater amount of light will pass the filter. Stars will be less dimmed. This filter has been optimized to block as much spurious light as possible and simultaneously provide the best performance for 'useful' light. A good filter for DSLR-, CCD- and film b/w-photography as well as observation of deep-sky-objects with telescopes or photo lenses of all aperture f/2 and above.
Main use
The filter blocks completely emission lines of artificial light sources like streetlights (e.g. sodium- and mercury-vapor) as well as the airglow. All 'important' emission lines as well as the spectral range of the night-adapted eye are beeing passed. The supplementary IR-blocking layer allows the use for DSLR- and Webcams without an integrated IR-block filter.
Other uses
- Easier resolution of Double Stars.
- With the EOS-Clip model, photography with DSLR cameras is feasible even unter extreme light-polluting conditions without shifting the white balance.
- The 1,25" and 2" socket models can be used for observations from light-polluted areas.
- If you plan to create color images from emission line data, our CLS-CCD filter is a great choice for the Luminance channel
Alternatives
CLS: For cameras with an integrated IR-filter or for visual observation.
Suitability
- Visual observation (dark skies): Good, to reduce light pollution by mercury-vapour lamps (streetlight)
- Visual observation (urban skies): Reasonable, an UHC-E or UHC filter is more suitable
- Film photography: Very good, colour balance is near perfect
- CCD photography: Very good, optimized rejection of light pollution
- DSLR photography (original): Good, colour balance shifted but contrast enhanced
- DSLR photography (astro modified): Very good, colour balance is near perfect
- DSLR photography (MC modified): Very good, colour balance is near perfect
- Webcam / Video (Planets): Unsuitable
- Webcam / Video (Deep Sky): Very good, if light pollution is a big problem

The UHC (Ultra High Contrast) broadband filter is designed to improve the visibility of various deepsky objects. By selectively reducing the transmission of wavelengths of light pollutants, specifically those produced by artificial lightings including mercury vapor lamps, both high & low pressure sodium vapor lights and the unwanted natural light caused by neutral oxygen emission in our atmosphere (i.e. skyglow). Together with the highly transparent in main nebula emission lines at OIII(496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII(654nm and 658nm), H-alpha(656nm) as well as SII(672nm), the filter is suitable for enhancing the contrast and details for both visual and photograghic purpose at sub-rural area with heavy light pollution.
Main Use and Performance
Suitable for color CCD cameras and unmodified DSLRs.
UHC with narrower passband provides higher contrast than CLS. Thus it is more suitable for urban environment where you suffer from severe light pollution.
UHC has a substantial red passband and offer superb views for objects like the Orion Nebula (M42).
Light pollution filter do not eliminate the effects of light pollution or increase the object’s brightness. In many cases, they increase the contrast between nebula and night sky, not brightening the nebula.
WARNING: The filters of Optolong are not designed for sun observation. DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITH OPTOLONG FILTER. You would be BLIND if you fail to observe the warning.
