The Lunt Solar Systems Pressure Tuner Controller, or PC-USB, is a microprocessor controlled, remote operable* , pressure control system that can be retrofitted to any Lunt PT product without return to the Lunt facility. A simple 1/8″ airline connects the PC-USB to the Solar Telescope and can be installed at any length.
The PC-USB is a simple 2 button system. One button for increasing and one button for decreasing the PT pressure. Digital feedback and indicator lights are provided.
The PC-USB can run continuously on internal battery power for more than 12 hours. It has external power input (12-15 VDC) (120/240 VAC to 12 V adapter) that can power the unit and charge the internal batteries simultaneously.
All existing PT systems can be retrofitted via an adapter to the pressure tuner knob. Or, future PT units can be specified with a quick disconnect at the PT input, removing the PT knob from the telescope altogether.
Upon power up the PC-USB will go thru a systems vent and ambient pressure set mode. It can be factory or user programmed to center wavelength setpoint. Due to the sealed nature of the system, the center wavelength setpoint will remain constant at any altitude at a given set pressure point.
The Pressure Tuner Controller is accurate to 0.3 PSI, providing very precise control of the pressure setpoint. It will auto-compensate for fluctuations in internal pressure changes due to significant changes in temperature. Because the PC-USB can provide closed-loop feedback of internal etalon pressure, users can correlate change in pressure to doppler shifted events.

Space Shuttle: A Photographic Journey is a captivating visual celebration of NASA’s pioneering spacecraft and is one the most well stunning books to arrive at BINTEL in a long time.
Commemorating 30 years of space shuttle exploration, this beautifully crafted photography book, now in a revised format, curates the finest NASA space shuttle images into one inspirational collection.
Arranged in thematic chapters ranging from the following:
• Launch Pad
• Lift-Off
• In Space
• Landings
From the launch pad through to the launch sequence, to the missions themselves and the dramatic conclusion of the return flight and landing, this is a fascinating photographic history of the world's first reusable spacecraft. Space Shuttle: A Photographic Journey pays tribute to the five pioneering orbiters built by NASA: Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour. It was developed by author Luke Wesley Price through an exhaustive study of the NASA archives and painstaking post-production processing of images to enhance their visual impact, all guided by correspondence with inspirational shuttle pilots such as the late Bruce McCandless.
The book tells the story of the space shuttle through extraordinary moments in a selection of NASA's 135 shuttle missions. Beautifully reproduced photographs capture the drama and danger of the hazardous launch sequences and vividly depict the techniques and challenges of mission tasks, including space walks, in-flight maintenance work and docking with the International Space Station. The book also collates the details of every space shuttle mission flown, including launch dates and lists of crew, alongside a gallery of the 135 exquisitely designed mission patches.
Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in human space exploration.
AUTHORS:
Luke Wesley Price is a British graphic designer of over 20 years’ experience in branding, advertising and imagery, who founded his own design agency in 2008. He has had a lifelong interest in America’s space history, from Project Mercury through to Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and beyond. As a child growing up in the 1980s, the space shuttle program was always the highlight and central thread of this passion, and in his research for this book he fulfilled the ambition of corresponding regularly with the shuttle pilots who had been his heroes. When not working in the world of design, Luke travels the world as a bass guitarist in bands including his own musical project RenattaJane. Luke lives in Essex.
Christopher J. Ferguson is a former NASA astronaut who was commander of the Space Shuttle Atlantis for flight STS-135, the final mission of the Space Shuttle program. Previously, on his first space mission (STS-115) in September 2006, he had been the pilot of Atlantis, and he commanded STS-126 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2008. He retired from NASA in 2011 and is now director of Crew and Mission Operations for Boeing’s Commercial Crew Program.

The QHY5III462 camera uses the Sixth Generation Sony 2.1 megapixel IMX462 STARVIS CMOS sensor. The pixel size is 2.9um making it the same size and resolution as the sensor used in the QHY5III290 camera that has been so successfully used for planetary imaging by some of the best planetary imagers in the world. Like other cameras in the 5III series, the QHY5III462 is USB 3.0 powered and controlled. No additional power is required.
The IMX462 sensor is back-illuminated and incorporates new technology that gives it some significant advantage over other planetary cameras: First, the IMX462 sensor has sHCG (Super High Conversion Gain) for very low read noise at high gain. This is ideal for stacking hundreds or thousands of short planetary images. Second, it is exceptionally sensitive in the NIR.
In this latest generation of sensors, the photodiode portion of the pixel well is physically deeper than in previous Sony BSI sensors, allowing photons of longer wavelength to penetrate deeper into the substrate. This dramatically increases the sensor’s sensitivity to red and near infrared (NIR) light. The RGB filters over the pixels become transparent at NIR wavelengths, so the sensor displays almost equal peak sensitivity to NIR light as it does to light in the visible spectrum.
The peak QE in the NIR around 800nm is as high as the peak QE in the visible wavelengths. For planetary imagers using a methane filter that passes light around 880nm this is welcome news.
BSI
One benefit of the back-illuminated CMOS structure is improved sensitivity. In a typical front-illuminated sensor, photons from the target entering the photosensitive layer of the sensor must first pass through the metal wiring that is embedded just above the photosensitive layer. The wiring structure reflects some of the photons and reduces the efficiency of the sensor.
In the back- illuminated sensor the light is allowed to enter the photosensitive surface from the reverse side. In this case the sensor’s embedded wiring structure is below the photosensitive layer. As a result, more incoming photons strike the photosensitive layer and more electrons are generated and captured in the pixel well. This ratio of photon to electron production is called quantum efficiency. The higher the quantum efficiency the more efficient the sensor is at converting photons to electrons and hence the more sensitive the sensor is to capturing an image of something dim.
Extended Near Infrared Sensitivity
Logically, one would think, each generation of Exmor sensor would be built upon and incorporate all of the improvements of the generation immediately preceding. However, this was not the case with the fifth generation Exmor R sensors.
The first back-illuminated sensors used shallower pixel wells (like the third-generation front- illuminated designs) than the physically deeper pixels of the fourth generation. So, while the back- illuminated structure increased the sensitivity in the visible range by 2X, the shallower pixels did not improve the NIR. The answer to this is seen in the latest, sixth generation, Sony Exmor R sensors, like the IMX462. Using physically deeper pixels in conjunction with the back-illuminated structure has dramatically improved the sensor’s sensitivity to both the visible and near infrared wavelengths.
sHCG Mode
Another advantage of the QHY5III462 is the camera’s “Super High Conversion Gain” capability. By using a lower capacitance, a small amount of charge can be converted to a high voltage resulting in higher sensitivity in low-light conditions. The readout noise of the QHY5III462 in high gain mode is as low as 0.5 electrons!
The test exposures below demonstrate the low light improvement over the IMX290 sensor. The QHY5III462C image is on the left and the corresponding QHY5III290C image is on the right. The low light conditions and exposures are identical for each top and bottom pair of images and a UV/IR filter was in place for each camera. So this test demonstrates the QHY5III462C’s increase in sensitivity and SNR over the QHY5III290C under the same conditions in the visual light spectrum alone.
Color and Mono Imaging
The filter matrix in the IMX462 uses organic dye filters. These filters are very efficient at visible wavelengths but become completely transparent in the NIR. For this reason, good RGB color balance requires an external UV/IR filter that blocks NIR wavelengths.
Many color cameras build this UV/IR filter into the camera or optical window for normal color imaging. However, in order to fully exploit the capabilities of the 462C sensor, in the QHY5III462C camera the optical window is AR coated only with no UV or IR blocking. Instead, the QHY5III462C camera includes two 1.25″ screw-in filters, a UV/IR cut filter to isolate the visible wavelengths for normal RGB imaging and an IR850 filter that will cut the visible wavelengths but pass wavelengths above 850nm.

All Astronomik Filters are perfect for modern cameras, including both CMOS and CCD based cameras, allowing you to capture the very best images possible with your instruments. Sharpness, contrast and the absence of any reflections is guaranteed.
Each and every Astronomik filter has to pass a complex quality control process before being suitable for delivery to our customers. Each and every emission line filter is measured with a high-end Perkin-Elmer spectral-photometer to make sure that every single filter is up to the specifications published on our website.
On the back of each filter-box you will find a label that details the precise sensitivity and band pass measurements for that individual filter inside the box: You will see the max transmission and the recommended range of focal ratio were the filter will give you the best performance.
Thus Astronomik OIII CCD filter is a narrow band emission-line-filter for CCD photography. The filter lets the light of double ionized Oxygen of emission nebulae pass and blocks nearly the whole remainder of the spectrum where the CCD is sensitive.
The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 12 nm is optimal suitable for common CCD cameras and allows the use of very fast optics The optimal aperture ratio for the use of the filter is 1:3 to 1:15 with apertures of more than 6" (150mm). It should be noted that the filter has a transmission of up to 99%, which cannot be attained by stacking more narrow-band filters. A further note, which led to selecting the half width (FWHM), is the dark current of common CCD imagers. Exposures with a CCD cooled to -15°C are limited by the dark current of the CCD, even in large cities with a bright background.
Another advantage of the 12 nm filter is the better availability of guiding stars for cameras with a built-in-autoguider (SBIG). If you use a very strong filter like our H-alpha 6nm filter you often won’t find a usable guidestar.
Together with our other three Astronomik emission-line filters you can do great color images even from very light polluted places!
Main use
The Astronomik OIII CCD increases the contrast between objects, in this case between the OIII emission line and the skyglow background. Our Astronomik OIII CCD completely suppresses the emission lines of artificial lighting (mercury (Hg) and sodium (Na)) and skyglow. Transmission losses and chromatic distortions, which arise with other filters, only occur with Astronomik filters when extremely bright aperture ratios of 1:2 and more come into play. The filter has a built-in IR-blocker up to 1150nm. You don’t need an additional IR-blocker with this filter.
Other uses
- When using the Astronomik OIII CCD filter togther with the H-alpha, OIII CCD and the SII CCD filters you can obtain three-color images of emission line objects (gas nebulae) from locations with very strong light pollution. To do so, you would take an image in three different wavelengths, select each one as a color-channel in Photoshop and paste them together as one single color image.
- If you plan to create color images from emission line data, our CLS CCD filter is a great choice for the Luminance channel
- The OIII CCD is also great for visual observation. If you plan to get filters for visual observation and for astrophotography get the CCD filter: You may use this filter visual as well as in front of you camera. The built-in IR-blocker doesn’t disturb visual observation but you need an additional IR-blocker if you want to use the visual filter with your camera.

Antlia SII 3nm Pro narrowband filter optimizes the FWHM (full-width half maximum) to 3nm bandpass. As the bandwidth becomes narrower, the 3nm Pro narrowband filters enhance the contrast of emission targets by lowering the unwanted background signal. Antlia SII 3nm Pro filter is designed to deliver 88% transmission at the 671.6nm line which provides you with the maximum signal and well-defined nebulae structures.
Conventional broader narrowband filters cause a heavy loss in transmission due to the strong (Center Wavelength (CWL)-shift. We guarantee T>88% within 1nm range of the center bandwidth, which means that the 3nm Pro narrowband filter can guarantee high transmittance for working with both long focal ratios and fast optical systems. Blue-shift data show that Antlia SII 3nm Pro filters can be used with nearly all systems as fast as f/3 with minimal loss in emission signal and meet the requirements of fast optics like Hyperstar and RASA.
The out-of-band blocking specification is rated OD5 (0.001%) which delivers an excellent SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) and effective cut-off rate to minimize interference from other wavelengths. Improved sharp cut-off astrophotography 3nm Pro filters are designed to minimize halos around bright stars.
Application and Performance:
High transmittance and smallest bandwidth to maximize contrast
A steep spectral profile minimizes halos around bright stars
A single substrate to eliminate internal reflections
Narrowband Objects: SII Emission Nebulae, Planetary, Wolf-Rayet Nebulae and Supernova Remnants
Use in light-polluted areas and dark sites
Extend imaging time when the moon is up
All Antlia narrowband Pro filters can be used down to F/3 with a slight loss of signal
All Antlia Narrowband filters are edge-blackened to eliminate internal reflections from stray light
Superior optical reliability reduces post-image processing
This filter is not suited to deep-sky objects that do not contain SII emissions.

Loadstar Pro details
The Lodestar PRO is an upgraded version of the very popular Lodestar X2 autoguider with quicker download times and lower read noise electronics. The original Lodestar used the ICX429 Exview chip from Sony and offered excellent sensitivity. However, the Lodestar X2 and the Lodestar PRO utilise Sony’s upgraded version of the CCD, the ICX829, with considerably improved QE and read noise. This new ‘Exview 2’ chip approximately doubles the Lodestar sensitivity and adds nearly a full star magnitude to the minimum guide star brightness. We have also redesigned the boards so that a standard RJ12 guide socket can be used. This will please many users who have found the small ‘ZH’ cable socket to be too delicate.
