The Lunt 50mm Dedicated Hydrogen-Alpha Solar Telescope is purpose-built for solar observation, offering an accessible entry point into this specialized field. Equipped with a Pressure Tuner for precise wavelength adjustment, this instrument delivers crisp views of the Sun's chromosphere, prominences, and surface features. The pressure-tuning mechanism provides superior control compared to traditional tilt methods, enabling consistent fine-tuning without mechanical drift. Ideal for amateur astronomers and serious hobbyists, this telescope combines optical quality with practical functionality. The 50mm aperture gathers sufficient light for detailed solar disk observation and basic research-level study of solar activity.
Lunt Dedicated Solar Telescopes deliver professional-grade solar observation in instruments designed specifically for the Sun. These scopes reveal chromospheric details with remarkable clarity, capturing prominences, filaments, and surface features that cannot be seen with standard white light filters. Compact, precise, and optically excellent, they offer an immersive solar observing experience for both beginners and experienced enthusiasts.
Selecting the correct blocking filter ensures optimal field coverage with your Lunt 50mm solar telescope. B400 is ideal for most visual observing, B600 works well for visual use with wider eyepieces and some imaging with a small sensor camera.

True Doppler Tuning
Importantly, True Doppler Tuning allows for a shift into and away from the user, adding a 3-D like component to the viewing experience. To be sure, it has minimal effect on proms due to their location at the edge of the disk, but it does have an effect on filaments and likewise the active regions on the surface. Also while looking at a filament at the center of the Sun, the user has the ability to Doppler shift from the base of the filament to the tip. In this way following the filament through it’s structure toward you and away from you. Amazingly, this allowing for enhanced visual and imaging capability for the observer as well as a research tool for the avid hobbyist. In addition the pressure tuning system provides an order of magnitude more precision to the tuning of the desired features.
