Description
Astronomer by night, astronomer by day! Observe the closest star to Earth during the day with the Vespera solar filter. The filter allows you to observe sunspots (dark spots) that show the intensity of the Sun’s activity.
Photograph the Sun with Vespera
The Solar Pointing mode allows you to observe the Sun in almost real-time using the live display*. Capture photos at any time from the Observation tab of the Singularity mobile app.
Take several shots at different times of the day, week or month and compare your photos. Witness how the Sun’s activity changes with the appearance or disappearance of sunspots. These can have a life span of several days, more rarely several weeks.
Observe safely
The filter is made of a metalized foil with a dimming effect. It will reduce the amount of light and allow you to observe the Sun in a way that is safe for your instrument. You will be guided through every step of your adventure by the Solar Pointing mode of the Vaonis Singularity app, to ensure the observation runs smoothly and that you and your instrument are safe.
Learn more in the Vaonis blog article Observing the solar activity with Vespera.
Warnings
- Your Vespera station should never be pointed towards the sun unless a solar filter is installed.
- You can only use Vespera to observe the sun using the Solar Pointing feature of the Singularity app and the solar filter specially designed by Vaonis. The use of any other means to observe the Sun (pointing by coordinates, pointing by hand, use of any other filter, etc.) would void your warranty in the event of damage to your equipment.
- Never look directly at the sun without adequate protection. Direct observation of the sun without protection and without a solar filter, even for a short time, can lead to serious eye burns and potential loss of vision or even blindness.
- Do not attempt to open the lens ring that contains the filter

The Vespera light pollution filter or CLS (City Light Suppression) filter allows you to improve the quality of your photos when observing in the city or suburbs. It attenuates the effects of light pollution and thus increases the contrast between the celestial object being photographed and the background sky.
The broadband filter blocks wavelengths mainly emitted by urban night lighting or undesirable natural light, while allowing the main wavelengths from celestial objects.
The broadband filter blocks Na (sodium) and Hg (mercury) wavelengths mainly emitted by urban night lighting or undesirable natural light (atmospheric oxygen radiation, etc.), while allowing the main wavelengths from celestial objects.
The anti-light pollution filter is particularly useful for improving the brightness of deep sky objects: nebulae, star clusters, galaxies, etc. It is especially effective on emission nebulae because of the filtered wavelengths.
Examples of emission nebulae: Bubble (NGC 7635), Crescent (NGC 6888), Eagle (M16), Elephant’s Trunk (IC 1396), Flame (NGC 2024), Lagoon (M8), North America (NGC 7000), Omega (M17), Orion (M42), Pacman (NGC 281), Rosette (NGC 2237), Tarantula (NGC 2070), Thor’s Helmet (NGC 2359), Trifid (M20), Tulip (Sh2-101).
Designed specifically for the Vespera lens, it fits easily and discreetly into the optical arm. The lens ring that holds the CLS filter is equipped with an electronic card that allows Vespera to detect it.
The filter is delivered in a transparent storage box.

Dew is one of the many enemies of amateur astronomers. In a cold or humid environment, droplets and dew can form on the lens of telescopes and cameras, affecting both the quality of observation and photos.
Vespera’s anti-dew system will activate when a certain temperature and humidity threshold is reached. Heat generated continuously around the lens will remove the fog, creating better viewing conditions and sharper pictures.
It is ideal for people living in a humid region (sea, ocean, river, lakes, ponds, etc.) or in a region where temperatures are cold. The sensor is also great in winter when temperatures are close to 0° Celsius.
Anti-dew system
By equipping your station with this sensor, Vespera’s integral demister will activate when a certain temperature and humidity threshold is reached. Heat generated continuously around the lens will remove the dew, creating better viewing conditions and sharper pictures.
Improved focus
The condensation that produces dew or fogging affects the focus of Vespera’s photo sensor:
- Initialization and acquisition times may be longer because a larger number of photos will be rejected by our image processing algorithms, which check the quality of the images and discard them if they are not of sufficient quality.
- The sharpness of the pictures, which in astrophotography is mainly judged by the sharpness of the stars and the absence of any halo, is not as good.
The hygrometer and the associated demisting system will improve both your observation and your photos.
A discreet design
Measuring under 13mm, the hygrometer is equipped with an electronic board which is the smallest board our expert engineers have ever designed. The sensor fits discreetly into Vespera’s optical arm and is compatible with the use of filters. It will automatically turn the anti-fog system on and off, so you never have to worry about it.
Instructions for installation
The box comes with:
- the hygrometer and a screw ready to be fitted,
- a mini screwdriver.
Remove the standard Vespera lens ring and carefully insert the hygrometer into the notch above the lens. Screw the sensor in tightly using the screwdriver provided in the box. The sensor must not move in its housing.
To verify that the sensor is properly positioned, connect Vespera to your mobile device and launch the Singularity app. In the Space Center and then the Instrument screen, the ambient temperature and humidity are displayed.
Directions for use:
- Make sure Vespera is turned off before installing or removing the hygrometer.
- You do not need to remove the sensor on each use. We recommended leaving it in your Vespera to avoid any loss or damage.
- Activating the demisting system results in higher battery consumption. We recommend you charge your station before using it.
Dew also occurs during large temperature changes, for example in winter, when you move from a warm to a cold environment and the air inside your Vespera has remained warm. We therefore recommend that you take your Vespera outside for at least 30 minutes before starting any observations so that it can adjust to the ambient temperature.

By selecting very precisely the wavelengths of Hydrogen Alpha (H-alpha) and Oxygen III (O-III), found mainly in nebulae, the filter will increase the contrast between the Stellar object and the sky background. Thus, its use makes it possible to obtain a higher-quality image, with sharper stars and finer details.
<
Keep only the essential
The Dual Band filter has been designed to allow only two particular wavelengths to pass through to the Vespera sensor:
– O-III
– H-alpha
Due to the filtered wavelengths, it is particularly effective for photographing nebulae in emission (e.g.: Orion nebula M42, Heart nebula IC 1805 …), dark nebulae endowed with hydrogen (e.g.: Horsehead or Elephant’s Trunk nebula…), planetary nebulae (e.g.: Owl nebula M97, Dumbbell nebula M27…), supernova remnants (e.g.: Veil nebula, Crab Nebula M1…).
For globular clusters (e.g.: Hercules cluster M13, cluster M92…), the selectivity of the Dual Band filter will help you to obtain sharper stars.
A filter specifically studied for Vespera
The optical quality of the Dual Band filter has been specifically studied by our engineers to offer use at full aperture, without any impact on the optical diameter of the instrument. The lens ring is equipped with an electronic micro-card that allows Vespera to detect the Dual Band filter and adapt its observation and image processing parameters.
Transmission curve
The filter features 12nm of bandwidth in each wavelength (O-III = 500.7nm, H-alpha = 656.3nm).

Featuring Sony’s latest Starvis 2 CMOS technology, this high-performance camera delivers increased resolution and finer detail thanks to its smaller pixel size and enhanced sensitivity.
The Origin 678C Camera replaces the original Origin 178C Camera, giving you an upgrade in image quality. Whether you're imaging galaxies, nebulae, or star clusters, you'll capture more object detail in images that better fill your smartphone or tablet’s display screen.
It’s the perfect way to further enhance your Origin experience—and your astroimaging.
What’s New with the Origin 678C Camera
The Origin 678C Camera brings meaningful enhancements to your astrophotography experience. Here’s what you can expect:
-
Increased resolution
Although both sensors are the same physical size, the IMX678C uses smaller 2.0 μm² pixels than the 2.4 μm² pixels in the IMX178C. This results in a finer resolution of 1.2 arcseconds per pixel (down from 1.5 arcseconds per pixel), allowing you to resolve more detail and “zoom in” slightly more on celestial objects. This is especially beneficial since most night sky targets are relatively small. -
Larger file sizes
Because the IMX678C packs more effective pixels (8.4 MP vs. 6.4 MP), image files will be somewhat larger. As a result, you may notice slightly slower automatic image processing in the app, depending on the performance of your smartphone or tablet. -
Increased sensitivity
Despite having smaller pixels, the IMX678C is slightly more sensitive overall than the IMX178C. The improvement is subtle; images won’t appear dramatically brighter. -
Different ISO response
ISO values are not directly comparable between the two sensors. The IMX678C's default ISO is 1000, while the IMX178C’s is 200. -
Different aspect ratio
The IMX678C uses a 16:9 aspect ratio, compared to the 3:2 ratio of the IMX178C. This means your field of view will appear more rectangular, ideal for framing larger regions of the sky and perfectly matched to the landscape orientation of most smartphone and tablet displays—making it easier to compose, view, and share your images.
Quick and Simple Installation
Upgrading to the Origin 678C Camera is fast and hassle-free. Designed to integrate seamlessly with your Origin system, the camera installs without any complicated tools or processes. Simply remove the existing camera, attach the Origin 678C using the included adapter and retaining ring, and plug it in.
After you install the new camera, we’ll walk you through capturing new calibration frames. Dark frames reduce sensor noise, while flat frames correct for illumination variations across the image. The Origin app makes this process simple and intuitive—and you can follow along with our video, too.
For the easiest and most consistent results, we recommend the PrimaLuceLab GIOTTO for Celestron Origin— a flat-field generator custom-designed for Origin that works with the same smartphone you use to control Origin. Whether you use GIOTTO or the evening sky (i.e., “sky flats”), capturing new flat frames ensures your upgraded system is optimized and ready to deliver stunning, high-contrast astrophotography from your very next session.
Second Life for Your Origin-178C Camera
Upgrading to the Origin 678C doesn’t mean your original camera has to sit on the sidelines. The Origin-178C is a powerful tool, and now it’s free to be used with other telescopes you may own. With its standard M42 T-thread connection, it mounts easily to most optical systems and makes a great planetary or lunar imaging camera. In minutes, your 178C will be ready for a whole new role in your astrophotography toolbox.
