TEC
ALL TEC TELESCOPES HAVE A 1-2 + YEAR WAIT (These telescopes are made to order)
Telescope Engineering Company began in 1994 as a distributor/subcontractor of optics and optical materials. Our primary products in the beginning were: zero-expansion Sitall blanks from LZOS, large mirrors and optical systems from LOMO and opticts for Maksutov telescopes made in Kiev (Ukraine).
We were successful in all of these products and totally brought over to the USA eight systems over 1 meter size. Seven 1-meter systems were installed on Mt. Wilson – a multi-array interferometer project for the search of planets near the closest stars. A few more large Cassegrain systems from 1m to 1.4m were made for Japanese subcontractors and the largest, a 1.4m Cassegrain system, ended up in an observatory in South Africa.
In the late 90’s we came to decision for starting our own production of optics and telescopes, at that time we brought to the USA a complete line of equipment for testing glass and optical manufacturing. In the 1998 we started production of optics in Golden, Colorado. We were producing a line of Maksutov telescopes ranging from 6″ to 10″ diameter and continue to work on special optics for professional observatories. In the beginning of the new century we began working on a new product – Apochromatic refractors, the first APO was made in the year 2000 ( APO200FL) and in 2002 we have started regular production of smaller refractors. The first production model of refractors was the APO140 F7 ED oiled triplet – which was a good choice for introduction to the market; later on we added larger models: APO160, APO180 and APO200. Apochromatic refractors make up the majority of our ongoing present and near future production.

Pictured Telescope is a prototype. (binoviewer not included)
- The APO140FL F/9.6 features an air-spaced apochromatic-doublet objective with a Fluorite (CaF2) rear element that results in a lighter objective.
- The objective weighs about 2.5 lbs., compared to 5 lbs. for the APO140FL F/7 version, allowing it to come to temperature more quickly.
- Starting 2025, the objective includes anti-reflective and hydrophobic coatings for easier cleaning and maintenance.
- Housed in an aluminum cell, it provides excellent thermoregulation while remaining lightweight and strong.
- The optical assembly is inside a lightweight aluminum tube with sharp-edged baffles.
- No collimation is needed after the scope leaves TEC.
- Comes equipped with a Starlight Instruments FTF#2545 Feather Touch Focuser with coarse and fine 9:1 planetary reduction.
- The 2" locking metal collet is temperature-insensitive and holds loads with precision and concentricity.
In classic refractor fashion, the TEC APO140FL F/9.6 is a no-compromise, no-frills design that lets the wonders of nature speak for themselves.
Recommended Accessories;
- Precision adjustable Tube Rings
- 9” Dovetail Plate and Carry Handle facilitate easy transportation and fit seamlessly with most mounts.
- Focal Reducer Corrector converts the F/7 Ratio to F/6.2 with a 115mm back focus.
- TEC Transportation Case that eases transport between observation locations.
- TEC Compact Case for easy lifting and transportation.
- 7×50 Vixen Finderscope with a TEC Finder Bracket and Base for Telescope mounting.
Testing and Quality Assurance
TEC Telescopes go through rigorous testing to ensure top quality performance. Newtonian Rings are used throughout the glass production process and TEC then use an interferometer to correct any remaining imperfections. Every telescope is then tested vigorously to reach the most optimum Strehl ratio possible. Rest assured that your telescope has been optimized to be as optically perfect as possible. If the objective does not reach TEC's expectations, the telescope will not be shipped. As a strict policy, TEC will not release telescope test reports.
While the objectives are fine-tuned under interferometrical control to meet the highest optical standards, cosmetic imperfections may exist in the objective and the tube assembly. Please rest assured that any imperfection in the telescope has been determined not to affect the optical performance.
