Tele Vue NP127is
For 25 years, Tele Vue has pushed the boundaries of APO refractors, as well as eyepieces, to the recognised pinnacle of performance. The Tele Vue NP127is retains the exemplary wide field and planetary visual capability while adding new features to make imaging easier and more flexible.
Tele Vue was determined to make the NP series optically, mechanically, and functionally as perfect as possible for imaging up to 50mm diagonal chips without penalty to its near-ideal visual operation.
By applying the developments created for the TeleVue60is to the new NP127is and then going beyond the results speak for themselves.
The NP127is maintains its 127mm f/5.2 optical specifications yet with a redesigned 4-element optical system. The larger rear lens group absolutely minimises vignetting in formats up to 50mm measured diagonally across the chip. An optional field corrector is available so the corners of the newly brightened edges are virtually as perfect as the centre of the field. To prevent restriction of the larger converging light cone the focuser has a 3" front aperture and a 2.4" rear aperture.
The new drawtube has features allowing quick changes from visual to imaging operation. While imaging cameras can be rotated without changing focus (just remember to do new flats!). It also has the capability to correct for any residual focal plane tilt so the imaging chip is square on to the light path.
The imaging insert ring is threaded to accept Tele Vue's new Imaging System accessories including large diameter extension tubes, optical accessories, and camera/CCD attachments all with mating threads.
TeleVue builds and tests the rack and pinion focuser to hold more than 5kg of weight, yet still permit extremely fine focusing control via a 10:1 dual-speed pinion assembly (measurable with the optional Digital Micrometer Kit). The optional Focusmate driver also permits electric motorised control of the focusing process. The new Focusmaster software interface allows this entire procedure to be completed from a PC or laptop.
Tele Vue has been known for producing visual instruments "even better than you imagined". The new NP127is is evidence that they aim to achieve the same with their imaging equipment

After a short wait, the "re-tweaked" TV127is is available. Never ones to rest, Tele Vue took the opportunity to to make small but meaningful changes to their flagship model. Both the optical and mechanical designs have been revised to reduce atmospheric defocusing sensitivity. The new lens prescription delivers smaller spot sizes over a broader wavelength range than before, while a new stainless steel front cell helps provide better thermal stability in extreme climates. Advanced multi-coatings are applied to maximize contrast and transmission. Still the fastest in the industry, there is just no competitive comparison considering its f/5.2 speed and flat-field.

Reviews
Excerpt from Living Bird article by Dr. KenRosenberg, director of conservation science at Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology.
TeleVue has introduced a new 60mm scope for birders, which includes the 45-degree prism, and when fitted with the same 8-24mm zoom provides powers from 15-45x. This scope is comparable in size, weight, and image quality to the best Swarovski or Kowa spotting scopes and may cost considerably less, ...
— Dr. Rosenberg, K. "Scope Quest 2008". Living Bird (2008 Winter). 46 - 47.
Excerpts from Dennis di Cicco review of the TV-60 in Sky & Telescope, December 2004
Even at 120x, brilliant Vega, one of the most challenging stars for a refractor to image cleanly, appears as a blue-white Airy disk surrounded by several white diffraction rings and no perceptible color halo.
— di Cicco, D. "Pint-Size Powerhouse: Tele Vue's TV-60". Sky & Telescope (Dec. 2004).
Read what SmartMoney has to say about the TV-60
SmartMoney magazine, The Wall Street Journal Magazine of Personal Business, is all about recommending the wisest buys for their readers. The 'Smart Spending' section of the November, 2004, issue features the article Stargazing; "Today's telescopes are so high-tech they seek out stars themselves. But we wondered: What would the world's top amateur astronomer think of them?" In this context, the Tele Vue-60 was chosen the winner by David Levy after checking out four other scopes and the Tele Vue-60.The article concludes: "Our winner gave us the best view of Jupiter, and without any gizmos. 'This is a sweet instrument,' Levy says."
— Light, J. "Stargazing". Smart Money (Nov. 2004). 133-135.
Excerpts from Raymond Shubinski's review of the TV-60 in Astronomy magazine
A note of caution: You may find yourself spending more time looking through the Tele Vue-60 than through your larger scope.
— Shubinski, R. "The Tele Vue-60". Astronomy (Nov. 2004).
Excerpts from Randy Roy's comments on Cloudy Nights Telescope Reviews website.
If you want wide field, pristine, color free views throughout a wide range of magnification -- if you want a scope that is a superfinder, a guidescope, a piggyback refractor, or an ultra-light travel scope -- and if you demand the best in fit, finish and build quality -- buy this. I've not seen anything else in its class that does so much.
— Roy, R. "Televue-60 APO". Cloudy Nights Telescope Reviews (Feb. 4, 2004).
Excerpts from TV-60 review by Ed Ting, published on The Telescope Review Web Site
- TeleVue's newest telescope is a cute little 60mm f/6 apo. In a departure from their usual styling, the TV60 has a sleek, tapered black body that resembles a spotting scope. .... The construction is heavy-duty and very serious. There's a sliding bar on the bottom that's very similar to the one on the Ranger. Like the Ranger, it has a helical focuser and drawtube assembly. Unlike the Ranger, the TV60 adds a nice sliding dew shield.
- The scope has impressive optics. .... No false color was noted. At only 15X (with a 24 mm Panoptic) Titan could be seen as a tiny pinpoint dot next to the planet. You can see Cassini's Division on Saturn at 70x (with a 5 mm Type 6 Nagler.) .... The Trapezium was easily resolved, .... Castor is an easy split. Most impressively, the scope split Rigel, again at 70X. On deep sky, you have to make some allowances for the small aperture. M35 is just starting to resolve, but the other nearby clusters (M37, M36, M38) look like similar faint smudges in the eyepiece. Not exciting, but again, we're only talking about a 60 mm telescope here.
- I once heard small scopes like this described as "One-Hour Telescopes." You get to see pretty much everything you want to see in about an hour. As such, the TV60 is a great quick peek or travel scope.
- Update, 2/7/04: TeleVue informs me that they plan to offer an X-Y heavy duty version of their Starbeam mount, so that the TV60 can be mounted on a larger scope.
— Ting, E. "Tele Vue-60". The Telescope Review Web Site (Feb. 1, 2004).

Design
At the heart of the Founder Optics FOT016 is premium performance 3-element ED APO triplet refractor, designed by a famous optical designer in based in Japan. The optical performance is impressive as a two ED glass elements are employed.
Unlike most ED triplet telescopes which use only 1 ED glass element, Founder Optics adopted 2 ED glass of S-FPL 53 and S-FPL 51 to bring a remarkable image that you'll immediately spot with even a casual viewing. With two fluoro-crown ED glass elements and fully multi-coated optics, these Founder Optics refractors provide a crystal clear, superb sharp, zero aberration and distortion image to your eyes or camera sensor.
In addition, each element is fully separated or air spaced which is not common even among APO triplet telescopes. This offers further improvements to the already impressive optical quality.
Quality
In order to complete this unique design, it requires a very high level machining and assembly capability. Founder Optics partner with an experienced factory located in Taiwan with over 50 years experience in precision manufacturing, especially for Japanese companies.
Besides manufacturing know-how, the high standard of quality control is also crucial to producing FOT86 and FOT106 telescopes. This is recorded in a Quality Certification Card.
Every unit is thoroughly tested, and these unique records help customers understand the quality of their telescope. Founder Optics take their quality checking very seriously as they aim to offer the best triplet APO telescopes to BINTEL customers.

The ZWO FF65 APO is a refractive astrograph with a powerful flatfield optical design which saves you from the expensive cost of a field flattener. It eliminates the trouble of calculating the back focus distance of the flattener and connecting various accessories to achieve that distance. You can just connect any possible accessories you need. As long as the target is focused, the whole optical system is perfect for imaging. This makes the whole setting up process much more convenient, and saves you time, allowing you to pay more attention to the image shooting itself.
The ZWO FF65 APO is also a nice choice for your visual observation. It fits diagonals as well as various eyepieces and can achieve a perfect focus, and can even be used to observe planets with a super-high magnification eyepiece.
The whole design of the telescope is compact and lightweight. The OTA weighs only 2kg, and the full package with tube rings and other accessories weighs 2.8kg. It has an aperture of 65mm. The focal ratio is f/6.4 and the focal length is 416mm. Instead of the quadruplet structure of the other ZWO FF APO Refractors, the FF65 APO is a quintuplet, with two ed Glass elements that offer excellent control of Chromatic and other aberrations.
The ZWO FF65 APO supports the full-frame imaging circle and has a fine spot diagram with tiny distortions of the peripheral stars. The 2.5" rigid focuser comes with a new-type 360°rotator with scales and a finder base. Tele Vue-NP101is
We were determined to make the NP series optically, mechanically, and functionally as perfect as possible for imaging up to 50mm diagonal chips without penalty to its near-ideal visual operation. (Reviewer Note.) How? By applying the developments created for the Tele Vue-60is to the new NP101is and NP127is and then going beyond.
The NP101 (540mm, f/5.4, 4") maintains its optical specifications yet with a redesigned 4-element optical system. Larger rear lens groups absolutely minimize vignetting in formats up to 50mm diagonal. For these large chips, an optional field corrector was developed so the corners of the newly brightened edges would virtually be as perfect as the center of the field.
Next, to take full advantage of the larger lenses, we developed a larger focuser and draw tube having a 3" front aperture and 2.4" rear aperture. This eliminates any restriction of the larger diameter converging light cone. We build and test the rack and pinion focuser to hold more than 5kg of weight, yet still permit extremely fine focusing control via a 10:1 dual-speed pinion assembly. This new draw tube also permits quick change from visual to imaging operation and allows full camera rotation without focus change. In addition, it has the capability to correct for any residual focal plane tilt and accepts a "position stop" for our digital micrometer to allow repeatable focus measurement to 0.0001".
To maintain squareness to the optical axis while changing camera orientation, the drawtube has four lock screws that tighten against a taper on the "imaging insert" ring. This insert is threaded to accept Tele Vue's new Imaging System accessories including large diameter extension tubes, optical accessories, and camera and CCD attachments, all with mating threads.
The Focusmate 10:1 planetary ball type reduction focuser provides extremely sensitive focus adjustment, measurable with the optional Digital Micrometer Kit to better than 1/10,000". Also, the optional Focusmate Driver permits electronic motor control of the focusing process. The Focusmate Driver has direction push-buttons and adjustable speed. A tap on the button permits vibration-free focusing in steps as small as approximately 0.0005". The Focusmate Driver can be remotely computer-controlled with Focusmaster Computer Interface.
Tele Vue has been known for producing visual instruments "even better than you imagined." We aim to achieve the same with our imaging equipment. Our dedicated local machinists and in-house staff are as committed as ever to deliver on these quality and performance goals.

Testing and Quality Assurance
TEC Telescopes go through rigorous testing to ensure top quality performance. Newtonian Rings are used throughout the glass production process and TEC then use an interferometer to correct any remaining imperfections. Every telescope is then tested vigorously to reach the most optimum Strehl ratio possible. Rest assured that your telescope has been optimized to be as optically perfect as possible. If the objective does not reach TEC's expectations, the telescope will not be shipped. As a strict policy, TEC will not release telescope test reports.
While the objectives are fine-tuned under interferometrical control to meet the highest optical standards, cosmetic imperfections may exist in the objective and the tube assembly. Please rest assured that any imperfection in the telescope has been determined not to affect the optical performance.

Testing and Quality Assurance
TEC Telescopes go through rigorous testing to ensure top quality performance. Newtonian Rings are used throughout the glass production process and we then use an interferometer to correct any remaining imperfections. Every telescope is then tested vigorously to reach the most optimum Strehl ratio possible. Rest assured that your telescope has been optimized to be as optically perfect as possible. If the objective does not reach Yuri’s expectations, the telescope will not be shipped.

Design
At the heart of the Founder Optics FOT86 is premium performance 3-element ED APO triplet refractor, designed by a famous optical designer in based in Japan.
Focuser - 2'' Rack & Pinion
Perfect Hybrid Drive system with 8 Ball bearings- More Smoothly!
2sets of 4pcs ball bearing at 2 sides between the drawtube and the focuser handle linear travel of the focuser. Once the locked the knob, there is no gap among the drawtube, 8pcs ball bearings, and the focuser cover. It does not only keep the focuser always paralleled the optic axis, but also keep it moved very smoothly.
Dual Speed Focuser- 1:11 – Extremely Accurate!
Smooth focus motion and fine focus wheel allow precision adjustment from critical focusing of eyepiece or camera.
Unique Lock Function– Heavy Loading Capability!
Special lock grabs the rack& pinion & drawtube in two directions. The design makes the focuser always paralleled the optics axis. Instead of pushing against the drawtube to eliminate focus shift while it’s focused. And it can handle up to 8kg as well for complex imaging trains.
Longer Traveling Distance– Suitable for a range of Photographing Accessories!
Unlike other focusers, the long travel 95mm provides more room for adjust for fine and accurate focus.
It is compatibly for a wide range of photographic accessories, along with easy to use controls.
